We are on the lookout for a dynamic and driven individual to fill the position of Transportation Planning Specialist 1, where you will engage in a range of essential tasks related to transportation planning, programming, and funding. In this role, you will oversee the strategic planning, development, management, and execution of transportation initiatives and programs in compliance with federal and state regulations for the Adams and Lebanon County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). You will also provide occasional support to the MPOs of adjacent counties. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that all transportation planning, programming, and project execution adhere to the relevant federal and state regulations, requirements, and policies governing highways and public transit. You will manage the financing of multimillion-dollar highway, bridge, and transit projects, develop and present funding modification tables for these projects, and deliver various status updates on departmental policies during MPO Technical and Coordinating Committee meetings. Furthermore, you will coordinate the development of the biennial Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) for both Lebanon County and Adams County MPOs, which involves managing task-funded projects in each region.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee; or
  • One year of professional transportation planning or transportation programming experience and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, or geography; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
