Vocational Adjustment Services Worker - Torrance State Hospital

In this position, you will collaborate closely with the activities director and supervisor to ensure seamless continuity of care and supervision. As part of a small, professional team, you will provide innovative therapeutic work opportunities for patients in need. You will engage with patients daily, offering essential, treatment-focused work opportunities tailored to their therapeutic needs. Additionally, you will conduct assessments to evaluate whether job readiness skills would support a patient’s progress during their civil commitment at the hospital. You will design and implement personalized care plans to address each patient’s unique treatment goals, complete patient employment packets, and provide on-the-job therapeutic interventions. You will also demonstrate proficiency in applying therapeutic techniques and maintain certification in advanced Mandt training.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Your work schedule is 7 days on, followed by 2 days off, then 3 days on, and another 2 days off.  
• May change based on operational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of experience in the field of Vocational Adjustment Services for those with mental or physical illness or handicaps: or
• Graduation from a four year college or university with major course work in Vocational Rehabilitation, Vocational Education or Counseling, or a related Human Services field; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
