Buckingham Correctional Center State Role Title: Dentist

Job Duties:

• Operates a dentist office practice within a correctional facility as a member of the VADOC Mobile Dental Team.
• Provides routine and emergency dental care to adult inmates with assistance from dental assistants and hygienists.
• Supervises dental assistants and provides clinical supervision for hygienists.

Responsibilities:

• Performs routine dental treatment, including examining teeth and gums, taking x-rays, and performing fillings and extractions.
• Diagnoses and develops treatment plans for patients.
• Responsible for the full range of dental care and education provided to patients, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and deformities of the oral cavity.

Requirements:

• Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from an approved school.
• Licensed to practice dentistry in Virginia.
• Controlled substances certificate from the DEA.
• Able to diagnose and treat oral health issues and inform patients on preventative care and treatment.

Considerations:

• Previous supervisory experience or work experience training and supervising dental staff.
• Experience providing dental care and treatment in a dentist office, military, or correctional setting.
