About Us:
The McDowell Institute is dedicated to promoting social, emotional, and behavioral wellness in educational settings. We aim to equip educators with the tools and knowledge they need to support student success and well-being. As part of our ongoing efforts, we are seeking a passionate and experienced consultant to provide training and technical assistance in youth suicide prevention and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
Position Overview:
The consultant will work closely with the McDowell Institute team to develop and deliver comprehensive training programs and provide technical assistance to educational staff and stakeholders. The focus will be on effective strategies for youth suicide prevention and the implementation of PBIS framework in schools.
Position Type: Hybrid, contractual, part-time
Location: Serving the Lock Haven and Mansfield campuses and surrounding areas of Commonwealth University. The home campus for this position is Lock Haven.
Duration: 12 months
Rate: $45,000
- Deliver training sessions and workshops on youth suicide prevention (e.g., Youth Mental Health First Aid, QPR, etc.) and PBIS for educators, administrators, and support staff.
- Develop resources and materials to support the implementation of best practices in suicide prevention and PBIS.
- Provide ongoing technical assistance and support to schools and districts in implementing and sustaining PBIS and aligned programs and initiatives.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to assess needs and tailor training and support accordingly.
- Stay informed about current research, trends, and best practices related to youth suicide prevention and PBIS.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training and support activities and make recommendations for improvement.
- Master’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Currently have or in process of being a credentialed suicide prevention training instructor (i.e., Youth Mental Health First Aid or QPR).
- Demonstrated expertise in youth suicide prevention and PBIS, with at least 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in designing and delivering professional development and training programs for educators.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Knowledge of current research and best practices in social-emotional learning and mental health in educational settings.

13. Sensory skills, i.e. visual, hearing, and speaking
14. Keyboard skills
