Position Description Summary
Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, remote, temporary position in its Online Master’s level Clinical Mental Health Counseling program beginning Fall 2025. This position requires development and teaching of online/distance courses. In addition, faculty will be responsible for maintaining scholarly activity and service for the program, university, profession, and community. The 100% CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program enables students to become license-eligible for the counseling profession in many states. The program’s primary goal is to prepare students to function independently and successfully as a clinical mental health counselor in a variety of professional settings. Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant must be qualified to teach graduate level courses and/or supervise students in field or internship experiences. An overview of the courses can be found here: https://www.lockhaven.edu/cmhc/#tab-2
The location for these temporary positions varies with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

Duties
  • Develop and teach core graduate courses in the CMHC program, to include online skills courses.
  • Engage in scholarly and professional activities, along with attending workshops and meetings consistent with professional and scholarly development.
  • Participate in the admissions process and work cooperatively with the office of admissions to ensure a high-quality student body.
  • Perform other university and department duties as expected of all faculty, including scholarly activities, serving on committees, attending meetings, and engaging in community service.

Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)
Minimum Requirements
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 1 year of full-time experience teaching graduate courses independently through distance education platforms, particularly experience with using virtual synchronous classrooms.
  • Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at the time of hire.
  • Candidate must have a master’s degree in counseling and be a Licensed Professional Counselor or a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in their state prior to the start date.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates with additional certifications are preferred (e.g. Approved Clinical Supervisor, Board Certified Telemental Health, and/or National Certified Addiction Counselor or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor).
  • Other preferred qualifications include diverse and recent scholarly activity and service to the clinical mental health profession and community.

Background Clearances
Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
