Recovery Support Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY: The Recovery Support Specialist is an advocate who is able, through personal experience, to relate to the clients process of recovery. The Recovery Support Specialist provides support and educational opportunities to promote self-advocacy and independence both individually and in groups.
Accountable and responsible for the following results:
- Represents the clients and the Organization. Provides the clients perspective for other employees.
- Assists peers with advocacy issues either individually or in a group setting.
- Assists in coordination of four problem gambling workshops (skills training and/or social) per year. Sets up speakers for topics or presents topics. May include coordination of materials for workshops.
- Participates in trainings on problem gambling at the request of DMHAS Problem Gambling Services.
- Encourages clients to engage in services that will assist them in their recovery from problem gambling. Encourages and assists clients in becoming active participants in their community.
- Assists clients in securing emotional, vocational, social supports as determined by the clients.
- Assists clients in accessing services as requested by the client, including housing, employment and benefits.
- Works with other staff members to provide crisis assessment and intervention, utilizing clinical and emergency back-up as indicated.
- Researches educational options and helps clients access them.
- Demonstrates an ability to develop a basic level of competency for providing services to clients with co-occurring disorders.
- Participates in community outreach activities across diverse communities.
- Maintains and updates, on paper or electronically, client case records with required progress notes documenting progress toward service goals and objectives.
- Attends regional gambling team meetings through the RBHAO.
- Attends departmental and Organization meetings.
- Adheres to Organization policies and procedures, including ongoing compliance with accreditation standards.
- Attends training sessions, workshops, seminars as requested by supervisor, or as needed for professional development, or as required for accreditation or licensing.
- May be required to use own vehicle on company business or to transport clients.
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
- May perform other assignments and duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or Equivalent required; Bachelors Degree preferred.
- Volunteer experience with adults with serious behavioral health issues.
- Must be well along in own recovery process from problem gambling.
- Proven experience working individually and in a group setting.
- Must be proficient with PCs and Microsoft Office Word & Outlook and if applicable must have the ability to navigate through electronic health record.
- Must have and maintain a valid CT drivers license if relocated to CT as a state resident more than 30 days ago. Must maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable at a reasonable rate under the Organizations auto insurance plan.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Passenger License.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS
Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification Ability to attain Recovery Coach, RSS, ICGC credentials
Salary : $16 - $18
