Recovery Support Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Recovery Support Specialist is an advocate who is able, through education or personal experience, to relate to the client’s process of recovery. The Recovery Support Specialist will conduct thorough assessment of assigned clients using SBIRT to determine the extent of substance use/abuse, provide psychoeducation and assist with referrals to appropriate treatment. The Recovery Support Specialist will conduct Recovery Management Check-ups within the framework of the RMCS model to encourage and support the ongoing successful recovery of program participants.
Accountable and responsible for the following results:
- Mentors, coaches and supports clients in their health, wellness and recovery.
- Conducts toxicology screens with assigned clients.
- Administers SBIRT assessments with assigned clients.
- Conducts Recovery Management Check-ups with adult caregivers in person, over the phone and in the community to identify and support progress in recovery.
- Will conduct toxicology screens with assigned clients, including urinalysis, breathalyzer and hair testing.
- Responsible for coordinating the provision of services by other community professionals.
- Models successful recovery strategies
- Assists individuals with identifying strengths and personal resources to aid in their recovery
- Provides advocacy and education on treatment barriers and stigma.
- Helps individuals recognize their capacity for recovery and resilience.
- Demonstrates an ability to develop a basic level of competency for providing services to clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders.
- Maintains and updates, on paper or electronically, client case records with required progress notes documenting progress toward service goals and objectives
- Enters and reviews client and program data in Provider Information Exchange (PIE) database (or comparative alternative) maintained by DCF
- Attends and participates in monthly coaching calls with model developer.
- Attends training sessions, workshops, and seminars as requested by supervisor, or as needed for professional development, or as required for accreditation or licensing.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Required to use own vehicle on company business, or to transport clients.
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral health field preferred. RSS with less than a Bachelor’s Degree must receive approval by the RMCS model developer.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.
- Volunteer or work experience with adults with serious behavioral health issues.
- Must be well along in own recovery process.
- Proven experience working individually and in a group setting.
- Sensitivity to diverse cultures and language competencies.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable at a reasonable rate under the Organization’s auto insurance plan.
