SPECIALIST-PREVENTION

POSITION SUMMARY: Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral sciences. Must provide own transportation.
QUALIFICATIONS: Adequate communication skills, process verbal and written instructions, dependable, interact effectively with the public and staff, adaptability-able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events, strong sense of commitment.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIORMENTAL DEMANDS: Must be able to move boxes weighing up to 20 lbs. of informational material from Regional Prevention Center to other sites. Frequent verbal communication by phone and face to face with individuals and groups in the community which requires hearing and speaking. Subject to many interruptions. Manual dexterity required for written communications and computer data entry. Frequent travel to provide services to eight county service area. Visual acuity necessary for preparation of handouts and materials. Must be able to stand for long periods of time in order to provide trainings. Must be able to work inconsistent hours on weekends and nights as needed.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
1. Develops capability within the community to formulate and implement effective prevention programming.
2. Organizes communities to build coalitions and provides prevention impactor training to individuals, agencies or groups within the community.
3. Mobilize community members to develop prevention policies within their community.
4. Plan and implement individual community prevention programs.
5. Provide technical assistance, consultation and information on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention.
6. Assist in conducting community needs assessment.
7. Assist in evaluating effectiveness and outcomes of prevention programs.
8. Identifies financial resources and provides technical assistance and information to secure funding for community prevention programs.
9. Creates and maintains awareness of the need for prevention efforts through various marketing strategies.
10. Collect, organize and maintain resources accessible to the community.
11. Respond to community requests for information on alcohol and other drugs.
12. Analyze content or informational materials and determines appropriateness for target audience.
13. Operate electronic information system to respond to consumer requests or record data.
14. Provide documentation via written reports for delivery of services.
15. Participate in agency continuing quality improvement (CQI) activities.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

2. Attends mandatory in-services and other training/educational programs as required.
