Description

DeafHealth, a division of CSD, is seeking a Public Health Outreach Coordinator to support our mission of advancing health equity for deaf communities. This role is essential in ensuring that public health information, resources, and advocacy efforts are accessible, culturally appropriate, and impactful. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for developing and executing virtual outreach strategies, engaging with community members and organizations, and producing high-quality, accessible health communications in American Sign Language (ASL) and other digital formats that is culturally- and linguistically- appropriate. This person will build strong relationships and interact with community organizations and members on an ongoing basis. Incumbent will be responsible for clearly written, intentionally­ designed health communication materials in various formats such as video, social media, email, web content, and blogs. The incumbent is similarly responsible for various research projects, including recruitment, design, and collection of community data, such as through focus groups and surveys. This is a remote position where the Outreach Coordinator can work from any location, including home, with a strong internet connection and appropriate background for business.

Through CSD’s health and patient advocacy division, DeafHealth tackles the social determinants and systemic inequities experienced by our deaf communities at the local, state, and national levels. DeafHealth employs a patient-centered approach and prioritizes community engagement to meet the evolving needs of our diverse deaf communities. To improve health outcomes, DeafHealth provides culturally and linguistically accessible health information and resources, patient advocacy, education and training, and direct services, such as hotline support. Its most recent groundbreaking project includes a two-year grant-funded project from the Patient-Centered Outcomes and Research Institute (PCORI) on capacity building within deaf communities on accessible healthcare and virtual healthcare platforms.

Outreach & Engagement

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance DeafHealth’s presence and reach.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Gather insights from the deaf community through research initiatives, including surveys and focus groups.
  • Evaluate healthcare resources and identify gaps in accessibility.

Health Communication & Content Development

  • Create and distribute culturally relevant, ASL-accessible health content across various platforms (video, social media, blogs, web content).
  • Translate complex health topics into clear, engaging, and linguistically appropriate materials for deaf audiences.
  • Ensure all communication aligns with DeafHealth’s mission, vision, and values.

Program Support & Evaluation

  • Monitor outreach effectiveness and track key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Draft progress reports and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Respond promptly to community inquiries and provide resource navigation.
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Proven ability to build and manage relationships with patients, community-based organizations (CBOs), disability advocacy groups, and other relevant stakeholders in the healthcare and public health field.
  • Familiarity with healthcare resources and services for the deaf, deaf-blind, and hard of hearing populations at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Ability to deliver exceptional customer service via superior interpersonal skills, active listening, with expressive and strong written communication skills
  • Proficiency with social media, video technology, and virtual communication platforms, including emails, websites, and blogs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to a wide range of stakeholders and communicate in various proficiency levels of ASL
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and the capacity to think strategically about outreach opportunities, partnerships, and innovations.
  • Understanding of DeafHealth’s values, services, and policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Social Work, Health Education, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience (required).
  • Master’s degree (preferred but not required) in Public Health, Health Promotion, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in community outreach, health education, public health programs, or advocacy.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, community-based organizations, and/or underserved communities to improve health equity.
  • Experience in creating accessible, engaging content in digital formats.
  • Ability to work during core hours.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in American Sign Language.
