COMMUNICATION SPECIALISTS, a full-service Two-Way Radio and systems provider, is in the market for a qualified two-way radio technician to design, construct, maintain, repair, and consult on RF based and IP based Communications systems.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a current North Carolina Driver’s license or be able to obtain a North
Carolina license within sixty days of employment. Applicants must also have a driving record free of any DWI convictions within the past eight (8) years. Applicant must be trustworthy and honorable in all aspects of life. The applicant should have no reservations about taking a drug test and submitting to a full background check at the onset of employment, or periodically during his/her tenure with the company.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The preferred applicant would have experience in working on two-way radio systems like,
Icom, Kenwood, EFJohnson, Motorola, Tait, and others, as well as radio dispatch 911 communications consoles, tone remote equipment, conventional radios, trunked radios, microwave radios, etc. We would also prefer two years of electronics school or two years equivalent experience in the industry.
Preferred key skills and abilities include basic knowledge of audio, RF, digital and analog products & systems, computers and standard software, and electronic circuits as found in two-way radio communications systems as well as IP schema for Radio over IP Systems.
The applicant should have the:
- Ability to learn and comprehend required test gear such as RF service monitors, various test sets, spectrum analyzers, antenna system sweep testing equipment, DMM, Etc.
- Ability to read and sketch, schematics, building plans and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to interpret and apply information found in equipment service publications.
- Ability to communicate with employer, clients, peers, tech support persons effectively.
- Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision, in the shop and/or on site.
- Ability to work irregular hours periodically & travel on an infrequent basis.
- Ability while on a specific project, to focus his/her attention until the task is complete.
The applicant must have good mechanical skills and must have knowledge of how to work safely around hazardous equipment. The applicant must be able to work safely around high voltage sources, as well as high RF antenna tower site hazards.
JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The purpose of this job is to design, construct, operate, maintain, and consult on RF communications-based systems for a multitude of commercial and industrial environments.
Major tasks include:
- Troubleshooting which site, system, module, or component is defective.
- Repair customers’ existing system by implementing repair or restoration priorities.
- Communicate effectively with customers including contractors, supervisors, assistants, and other team members, both in person, and over the phone or radio.
- Relate Communication Specialists needs to vendors, on a case-by-case basis.
- Create documentation in the written word. Documents such as invoices, proposals and reports for maintenance performed, as well as project documentation.
- Program radios, consoles, computers networks, with customer specific data.
- Understand how to align radio system equipment using industry standard AF and RF procedures. CSC will provide necessary test equipment required for these projects.
- Perform inventory on supply parts in shop and service vehicle(s), maintain test gear and accessory cable kits and assist in scheduling routine maintenance on same.
- Provide client services documentation for invoicing, requested paperwork which should be submitted to Administration, in a timely manner.
- Required to perform physical labor outdoors from time to time.
- May be required to lift to 50 pounds.
- May be required to work long hours in the event of natural disasters or similar events.
- Must always follow safe work procedures, personnel Safety Manual provided by CSC.
- Must respect and treat, with the highest regard, the customer’s and employer’s vehicles, equipment, tools, and accessories, at all times.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment(s) described here represent the wide range of encounters a technician faces while executing the functions of this job, especially when working at a customer’s location. All their safety procedures must be followed to the letter.
CSC provides all staff members with safety equipment, clothing, eyewear, etc., for every on- site project he/she is engaged in. Working in and around industrial plants is rare, but also essential. Learning the different types of environment(s), is important for the team member’s safety. All safety details are provided in the employee’s Safety Manual when hired.
Our company has close relationships with most all Public Safety entities thus, we regularly provide communication technical services to them, both here at headquarters and on site at their locations across our territory of Southeastern North Carolina.
