Youth Development Coach
Elementary & Middle School Openings
Part Time: 16-20 hours per week
Hourly Rate: $16.50
Must be 18 years or older.
SCHEDULES AVAILABLE
Schedule A: Monday through Thursday, 1:45 – 6:00pm
Schedule B: Monday through Thursday, 2:15 - 7:00pm
Schedule C: Monday through Thursday, 2:30 – 6:30pm
Schedule D: Monday through Thursday, 3:00 - 7:00pm
Position Summary: Responsible for the direct delivery of a wide range of activities as part of a high quality
youth development program for students enrolled in a CIS After School Program. CIS After
School Program is a licensed child care program funded through the 21st Century Community Learning
Center. The Youth Development Coach (YDC) engages directly with school-aged students. The
coach’s purpose of improving skills and behaviors associated with success in school, including core
academics (reading, English language arts and math) and social emotional learning through regular
attendance and school engagement. The position provides student supervision, in keeping with basic
measures of safety, as well as creating opportunity for character developing, practicing and
generalizing skills learned during the school day, creating and expanding experiences that may not
otherwise be available to students. The YDC is an essential part of delivering after school programs
that comport with high quality youth development programs, consistent with Michigan’s Out of School
Time (OST) and Weikart Program Quality Improvement (PQA) standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal working conditions where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and
the like. Occasionally lifts average 15 pound boxes of supplies, materials, etc. to waist high level.
Must be able to observe and hear students, staff and providers across a wide range of settings and
interpret those observations for the purpose of evaluation, monitoring and service modifications. Must
be able to maintain a high degree of physical activity to supervise and engage students across a wide
variety of settings and purposes, including the use of stairs and multiple floors, community field trips,
recreation and exercise, etc.
Essential Job Duties:
• Work closely with others to ensure programming is efficiently and smoothly delivered daily, including
maintaining adequate structure, supervision and safety.
• Serve as a positive role model for youth, by actively honors the value of diversity, inclusion, equity
and general practices of a healthy lifestyle.
• Practice and model the mission of CIS, and is always, an actively a positive ambassador for CIS
and its mission within the broader community.
• Facilitate educational activities and experiences supporting the college-going culture.
• Develop and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of childcare licensing requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality of all student and Communities In Schools related information.
• Work effectively with delivery partners, volunteers, and interns to assure the most effective
programs for students.
• Provide support and instruction with student homework or other academic activities and skill
development.
• Attend required and recommended professional development/training to enhance skills and meet
requirements.
• Engage in coaching and supervision in a positive manner to develop skills, correct deficiencies and
improve overall program strategies.
• Demonstrate consistent ability and willingness to operate as a positive and effective member of the
CIS site team.
• All other duties assigned.
Qualifications
Position Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
• A High school diploma or equivalent required
• A minimum of 18 years of age
• Experience working in youth development program (i.e. Youth Development, Childcare
Administration, Education, Recreation, etc.) preferred
• Good Communication Skills with the ability to understand and transmit instructions to others.
• Well-developed relationship skills work with diverse team members and student populations.
• Planning skills with the ability to organize, prioritize and work independently in a timely manner.
• High level of professionalism being able to consistently meet required schedule of employment.
