Position Overview
The External Communications Manager at Communities In Schools of South Carolina (CISSC) is responsible for developing and executing effective messaging and communication strategies to elevate the CISSC brand and mission across South Carolina. In alignment with the organization's strategic plan, this role leads statewide communication efforts, ensuring consistency and impact across all platforms and stakeholder groups.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications & Brand Awareness
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy that aligns with CISSC’s mission and goals.
- Ensure consistent messaging and optimization of all communication campaigns and branding across all communication channels.
- Monitor and analyze communication efforts to optimize reach and engagement.
Content Development & Storytelling
- Create compelling promotional and informational materials that effectively tell the CISSC story.
- Develop written content, including press releases, stakeholder appeal letters, newsletters, and reports.
- Produce engaging multimedia content, including graphics, video, and social media assets.
Media Relations & Public Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and journalists to increase coverage of CISSC initiatives.
- Draft and distribute press releases and coordinate media outreach efforts.
- Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries and help prepare leadership for interviews and public appearances.
Digital & Social Media Strategy
- Manage CISSC’s digital presence, including website content, email marketing, and social media channels.
- Develop and execute digital campaigns to grow audience engagement and awareness.
- Track and analyze digital metrics to inform content strategy.
Graphic Design & Visual Communications
- Design promotional materials, infographics, and branded content for various platforms.
- Ensure all visual assets align with CISSC’s brand identity and storytelling goals.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support marketing and fundraising initiatives with high-quality visuals.
Performance Measurement and Analysis:
- Monitor and analyze marketing performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and optimization in support of revenue acquisition
- Prepare regular reports and presentations on marketing performance to stakeholders
Event Production and Project Management:
- Develop and implement a clear vision, project plans, and communication across internal and external stakeholders to successfully execute CISSC’s annual events in support of organizational goals.
- Research, select, negotiate contracts with vendors, venues, and service providers.
- Manage event logistics and run of show programs.
- Oversee and manage event budgets and timelines.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a similar field.
- At least 3 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an ability to craft compelling messages.
- Experience managing social media and website content.
- Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Constant Contact) and digital marketing platforms.
- Experience working in Microsoft 365 Suite (SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Compensation:
- Competitive salary ($50,000 to $60,000) based on experience.
