What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist (Per Diem) position at Communities of Don Guanella and Divine Providence?
Essential Job Functions
- Travel to and provide phlebotomy services to individuals with I/DD at DGDP’s campus programs and community residences.
- Perform venipuncture and related specimen collection with sensitivity to the unique medical and behavioral needs of individuals with I/DD.
- Ensure timely and proper labeling, packaging, and transportation of specimens to the appropriate laboratory.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all collections in accordance with DGDP standards, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, Health Care Coordinators (HCCs), and external laboratories to ensure high-quality care delivery.
- Participate in and support on-site vaccination clinics and special health screening events, as needed.
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to protect both individuals served and staff.
- Monitor, restock, and maintain all mobile phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
Other Job Functions
- Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism in adapting to various program settings and individual needs.
- Maintain a person-centered approach that prioritizes the comfort and understanding of each individual served.
- Support nursing staff with additional tasks within scope, such as vital signs or screenings, as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Nursing Administration.

- High School diploma required.
- At least one (1) year of phlebotomy experience, preferably with individuals with I/DD or in a community-based healthcare setting.
- Understanding of person-centered care and demonstrated sensitivity to the unique needs of individuals with I/DD.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel to multiple locations reliably.
- Proficiency in maintaining medical records and using medical documentation systems.
- Ability to read and write competently in English.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) required.
- Valid (state of residence) Driver's License and driving approval from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is required.
- Ability to successfully pass and maintain acceptable background checks – FBI, PA Child Abuse, and PA State Police Criminal History.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to work in a variety of settings and environments and has an occasional exposure risk to adverse weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually light to moderate and the office is subject to frequent interruptions throughout the day.
Physical Demands:
The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit.
