What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floating Senior Service Coordinator SPC position at Community Access?
Founded in 1974, Community Access celebrates its 50 th Anniversary as a pioneer of supportive housing and social services in NYC for people with
mental health concerns. We proudly lead advocacy efforts that rally our community to promote human rights, social justice, and economic
opportunities for all. We are built upon the simple truth that people are experts in their own lives. Our programs are spread across 25 locations and include
over 1200 units of supportive housing in three boroughs, the Howie the Harp Advocacy Center, East Village Access—a PROS program, Peer
driven Crisis Respite Center, Adult Home Initiative, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and the Intensive Mobile Team (IMT).
Program/Department Description
Community Access provides affordable housing, supportive services, education, training and employment services, integrated rehabilitation and treatment services, and care coordination to individuals with psychiatric disabilities, histories of homelessness, substance use, criminal justice involvement and serious health concerns. The Housing department provides licensed transitional residential programs for individuals moving from institutions into the community as well as permanent and affordable supportive housing for individuals living with mental health concerns and low-income community residents. Services are geared towards assisting people in moving forward with their lives in stable community-based environments.
Position Overview
The Floating Senior Service Coordinator-SpC position is designed to provide more intensive, trauma informed services to a caseload of tenants with more complex needs such as behavioral concerns, problematic substance use and/or serious mental health concerns. The Floating Senior Service Coordinator-SpC provides support services as defined by contracts, regulations and Community Access guidelines to assigned program participants in different buildings in our SpC portfolio. Responsibilities include providing counseling and support, crisis intervention, referrals and assisting tenants achieve personally meaningful goals. The Floating Senior Service Coordinator is able to readily integrate into a program’s team to provide assistance to participants using a person-centered approach that supports individuals in their recovery, hopes and opportunities.

Job Qualifications
- Have an understanding, appreciation, and commitment to the philosophy and mission of Community Access.
- At least three years’ experience with recovery-oriented practice.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must be fingerprinted and cleared by the Justice Center.
- Knowledge of mental health concerns and substance use.
- Commitment to recovery-oriented practice.
- Capacity to monitor details of program operation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to utilize various computer programs, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Be creative and flexible.
- Show initiative and be responsible for follow through.
- Ability to maintain confidential information, as related to position.
- Skilled in conflict mediation/negotiation and have an assertive approach to problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking, preferred. Ability to speak other relevant languages, dependent upon specific needs of tenants.
