POSITION: Central Processing Clerk (CPC)
SUPERVISOR: Central Processing Manager (CPM)

JOB SUMMARY: The Central Processing Clerk works under the direction of the CPM of the health and dental centers. The CPC will accurately bill patients and/or insurance companies, as well as maximize payment amounts in turn-around time.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Handle all insurance claims and billing policies
- Process charges daily
- Maintains working knowledge of CPT-4 and ICD 10 coding to legally maximize reimbursement
- Process claims daily
- Post all insurance payments on a daily basis
- Maintain monthly accounts receivable over 30, 60 and 90 days assuring that the overdue accounts are addressed according to the policies and procedures
- Remedy any previously approved insurance claim that has subsequently been denied
- Resubmit/Rebill any unpaid claims
- Mail all patient statements at least monthly
- Based on policies, make decisions to pre-list for bad debt write off
- Reconcile credit card batches daily (web based cc processing)
- Collect delinquent accounts by establishing payment arrangements with patients; monitoring collections; and compiling information
- Keep collection information confidential
- Handle all patient complaints regarding billing in a timely and consistent manner
- Maintain the compliance of the department with the local, state and federal law

COMPUTER SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enter all charges and credits daily
- Transmit all insurance claims as instructed
- Keep user IDs and passwords protected and secure

- Take initiative to complete projects in a timely manner
- OTHER DUTIES
- Attends mandatory staff meetings
- Completes compliance trainings in a timely manner

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years medical billing experience in a medical office
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Adhere to and implement the agency’s mission and goals
- Successfully complete background check including Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Medicare exclusion list, verification of valid driver’s license, employment medical exam, including a TB test, and any other screening/testing required by CAA policies/procedure and/or requirements of all funding sources. CAA is a drug/alcohol-free and smoke-free workplace and post-offer drug and alcohol testing is required.
- Ability to work in several locations with diverse staff
- Must have an insurable driver’s license and be bondable
- Obtain continuing education course and training as required to update knowledge and skills to assure continued efficiency
- 90-day probationary period
PHYSICAL/EVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to push, pull, carry, lift, bend, twist, reach, sit, stand for lengthy periods of time; ability to walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and often high-stress environment as well as the ability to adapt quickly to workload changes
- Ability to deal with inside and outside clientele in a diplomatic and courteous manner while assuring adherence to CAA policies/procedures
- Above-average oral, reading and writing skills to accurately operate relevant computer programs, perform necessary documentation and effectively communicate
