Early Childhood Behavior Support Specialist - Full-Time (travel required)

  • Assists in behavioral education interventions, supports and providing appropriate behavioral strategies and materials to meet the needs of children with at-risk behaviors and/or behavioral needs.
  • Develops collaborative/consultative relationships with center staff, general and special education service providers.
  • Assists and supports behavior plans and conducts professional learning for staff, and other related service providers and families, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates support, to include identifying and modeling effective behavioral interventions.
  • Assists in providing staff with ongoing training.
  • Collaborates with other Specialists to ensure services and supports are provided to children and staff.
  • Coordinates Behavior Plan process with center base staff, content specialists as needed.
  • Keeps current with research related to effective behavioral interventions and strategies that support students at risk and students with disabilities who have social/emotional/behavioral needs.
  • Maintains appropriate data regarding number of children serviced, placement of children, needs of children, parent involvement, needs of staff, etc.
  • Monitors the implementation of behavioral intervention and support programs to assure consistency across classrooms, articulation among program and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assists in determining program needs to be communicated to the Co-Directors of Education and Children Services.
  • Monitors behavior education procedures as related to behavioral supports and interventions to assure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assists in observations of teaching staff to provide feedback, modeling and recommendations for handling child behaviors.
  • Participates in Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, as needed.
  • Assists in the collection of information for child behavior record keeping purposes.
  • Assists in classroom support, as needed
  • Provides direct supervision of children when working in classroom.
  • Complies with Agency’s Mission, Vision and Culture statements.
  • Complies with program and Agency policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor or senior management
  • Responsible to keep assigned work area clean and miscellaneous housekeeping duties as assigned by director supervisor.
  • Supports in sharing of information of child progress with authorized individuals.
  • Assists in child and staff recruitment for program, i.e. attending recruitment events.
  • Engage with children in the classrooms.

Professional Competence and Job Knowledge:

  • Ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children.
  • Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily classroom activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children.
  • Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of 0-5 year old children.
  • Willingness to continue professional growth through continued education.
  • Working knowledge of available community resources.
  • Demonstrate outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to relate well with students, parents, classroom staff, manager and colleagues
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
  • Work is performed in a classroom setting and school environment where the noise level is moderate. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk, bend, stoop and kneel, see and hear, use hands and arms to lift up to 60 lbs. and walk around the classroom, outdoor play area and school facilities.
  • Be able to with stand different temperatures through the winter, spring, summer, and fall to be able to provide supervision and engagement with children in outside play.

Minimum Qualifications/Education:

Education: Minimum of an Associates’ Degree in Psychology, social work, special education or a related field. Bilingual language speaking is a plus.

Experience: Demonstrated ability to supervise and ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for children. A minimum of one year classroom experience is preferred.
