Job Description
CLASSROOM AIDE/Substitute Teacher
Supervised By: Teacher or Associate Teacher
Supervises: No direct supervisory responsibility
General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Teacher or Associate Teacher, aides in facilitating lesson plans and classroom activities.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
1. Monitors and assists students during classroom activities, including large and small group time, mealtime, language activities, music, drama, work time, rest period and other activities.
Encourages and motivates students to take part.
2. Supervises groups of children to maintain safety and ensure children are properly engaged in activities.
3. Assists children with personal tasks including getting settled upon arrival, packing backpacks, using the bathroom, personal hygiene, and mealtime.
4. Assists with classroom set-up, take-down, clean-up and general housekeeping duties.
Monitors classroom environment and student behaviors and interactions to ensure safety.
5. Participates in planning classroom activities as requested.
6. Observes children's classroom behaviors and reports issues to Teacher or Associate
Teacher.
7. Attends staff meetings, parent meetings, and other activities when appropriate.
8. Performs other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

- Educational requirements include High School Diploma, or equivalent. Must be able to obtain a CDA within 3 years of date of hire, if required.
- Basic knowledge of the practices used in maintaining a clean and sanitary classroom environment, and in the safe handling of food.
Classroom Aide 2
- Basic knowledge of the techniques used in interacting with children in a classroom setting.
- Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts.
- Skill in facilitating classroom activities and in engaging students.
- Ability to observe student behavior and identify and report issues.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with students, parents, and other employees.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically in classroom setting where they are regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
