At the Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC), our mission is to diminish poverty and enable self-sufficiency for all Howard County individuals, families, and children in need. We act towards this mission by focusing on four critical services: housing assistance, food assistance, energy and weatherization assistance, and early childhood education. CAC impacts our local society by changing lives and helping create a pathway through and out of poverty or just providing a hand up when one is needed.
Who You Are
As a Food Bank Associate at CAC, you are a dedicated professional committed to providing essential food assistance to individuals and families in need. Your role is crucial in ensuring the proper collection, storage, and distribution of food to our community members, fostering relationships with donors, and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
What You'll Do
- Transportation and Collection: Operate a box truck to transport donated and purchased food products to the Food Bank.
- Food Storage and Inspection: Safely store food products in compliance with health department regulations and inspect food for quality upon receipt.
- Inventory Management: Stock shelves, rotate food products, and maintain an accurate inventory.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure the Food Bank facility meets all regulatory standards, including cleaning the building and maintaining vehicles.
- Distribution: Distribute TEFAP foods to Partner Pantries and assist clients during food distribution.
- Volunteer Coordination: Lead and communicate effectively with various groups of volunteers.
- Client Support: Provide support to clients during distribution, assisting them in the Marketplace and to their vehicles.
- Professional Development: Attend and participate in in-service training, staff meetings, and other activities to facilitate professional development.
- Collaboration: Work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and clients to achieve CAC's mission.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring

Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to pass the D.O.T. medical exam.
- Availability to work Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with occasional flexibility.
- Ability to attend outreach events on campus and in the county.
- Proficiency in using Office suite programs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak English.
- Demonstrated compassion and respect for individuals facing economic challenges.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in warehouse operations.
- Experience using a pallet jack.
- Experience operating a 16-foot box truck.
