YOUR IMPACT AS : OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR
As the Office Administrator for the Sixth Street Shelter, you will be the first point of contact for residents, visitors, donors, and volunteers, offering a warm and professional presence while ensuring the office runs efficiently. Your day will include greeting and assisting visitors, managing phone calls and mail, scheduling meetings, maintaining office equipment, and keeping supplies stocked. You will also assist with record-keeping, reports, and other essential documentation that supports the shelter's operations.
Beyond administrative duties, you will play a key role in donation and volunteer coordination. This includes tracking both monetary and in-kind donations, assisting with donor database entry, and working closely with the Development & Volunteer Coordinator to support our volunteer programs. Your contributions will help sustain the generosity of our community and ensure resources reach those who need them most.
You will also provide direct support to shelter staff and program participants. Whether it is assisting with resident needs, maintaining accurate records, or supporting outreach efforts, you will be a vital part of keeping the shelter a well-organized, welcoming, and supportive environment for families on their journey to stability.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL :
To excel in this role, you should have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience, along with strong organizational and administrative skills. You are highly detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and comfortable working in a fast-paced nonprofit setting. Your ability to communicate effectively-both verbally and in writing-will be key in engaging with residents, staff, donors, and community partners. A friendly and professional demeanor is essential, as you will be the face of the shelter to those seeking assistance.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools is necessary. While not required, bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred. Prior experience in a nonprofit or social services environment is also a plus, especially if you have worked directly with vulnerable populations.
