Community Action is looking for a Classroom Support Specialist to join our Head Start team. This individual will be responsible for providing direct teaching support to assigned classrooms to help facilitate mental health consultation for classroom staff. The Classroom Support Specialist will assist in providing consistent classroom coverage, implementing designed lesson plans, and working with the classroom team to provide quality instruction and support.
Starting Pay: $17.74/hour
The Role:
Teach in designated classrooms on a rotating basis to enable Lead Teachers to participate in dedicated time for Mental Health Consultation.
Serve as a mentor/model to Associate Teacher and Teaching Assistant and provide break coverage and classroom coverage as needed.
Work with Lead Teacher and Instructional Coach to maintain communication and be familiar with assigned classroom children’s health, skills, behaviors, growth and development.
Work with classroom staff to ensure developed lesson plans and activities are implemented appropriately.
Provide opportunities for children to develop positive self-images and experience success.
As assigned, implement individualized behavior support plans as needed.
Assist in implementing developmentally appropriate classroom activities that will enhance the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of each child.
Maintain an attractive and stimulating learning environment and encourage child’s independence and self-selection of activities.
Ensure that all children are under appropriate supervision and guidance at all times.
Maintain a clean, safe and healthy classroom environment.
Utilize guidelines from ITERS/ECERS, CLASS, Inventory of Practices, and Teaching Strategies GOLD.
Assist in the integration of other areas, i.e., health, nutrition, mental health, disabilities and parent involvement, into the education plan.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood preferred (or related field), minimum of a CDA. Minimum of one year experience working with young children and their families in a childcare program or related setting required.
- Must support and demonstrate commitment to agency mission, vision, and values.
- Must be sensitive to the experiences, needs, and strengths of low-income and diverse populations, and individuals with disabilities.
- Must be a professional representative and advocate of our agency, staff, and clients.
- Sensitivity to the experiences, needs, and strengths of low-income and diverse populations, and individuals with disabilities.
- Effective English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently to achieve multiple set objectives concurrently under pressure.
