Supports Administration, Center Supervisor, Teacher(s) and Associate Teacher(s) at the center in carrying out overall program goals and objectives in a positive, open and productive manner. Shares responsibility for overall quality of children’s educational experience. May support the Bus Driver in the safe transportation of children to and from the child care center. Supports CAPSLO’s mission by ensuring quality education and learning environments for all children involved in the program. The work of this person must always be under the presence of a teacher and or assistant teacher. An aide who is 18 years of age or older, and who meets the requirements of this position, may escort and/or assist children in going to the bathroom, and may supervise napping children without being under the direct supervision of a teacher.

Qualifications:
- Completion of 6 semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development (ECE/CD) with a grade C or better.
- Experience working with children with diverse special needs is a plus.
- Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or California Associate Teacher Permit.
- Enrollment in a CDA credential program to be completed within 2 years.
- Associate or baccalaureate degree, or enrollment in a program leading to such a degree.
- Preferred: Units in ECE/CD from core areas such as child/human growth and development, child/family relations, and programs/curriculum.
- Certificates of completion for pediatric first aid and CPR training within 30 days of hire.
- Ensure the safety of children at all times, including during bus rides and emergency evacuations.
- Assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities, collecting materials, and providing input into lesson plans.
- Support children's cognitive, physical, and self-help skills, including special exercises and therapy as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of records, document parent contacts, and report child abuse.
- Uphold health and safety standards in the classroom, track daily checklists, and participate in housekeeping duties.
- Participate in physical activities with children, including games, music, and outside play.
- Help children with boarding, seat belts, and activities during bus rides, and ensure proper release to authorized individuals.
- Attend home visits, staff meetings, and required training, and share responsibility for the overall quality of the education experience.
- Provide appropriate guidance to children, ensuring their personal rights are maintained.
- Act as a Mandated Reporter of Child Abuse and Neglect, following procedures for reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Supervisor, Teacher(s), or Associate Teacher(s).
