JOB SUMMARY: Assist in preparing, delivering, and serving nutritious meals consistent with the planned menu, while maintaining and modeling appropriate sanitation procedures required by Head Start, Health Department, ODA, FDA and CACFP in the kitchen and classroom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
1. Assist in preparing meals in assigned kitchen
2. Maintain a clean and sanitized environment; assure all work surfaces, utensils are clean - sanitized and proper sanitation methods are followed
3. Serve family style meals and assist in clean up at point of service
4. Assist children during mealtime as needed
5. Utilize proper sanitation methods, assuring food holding temperatures are at proper levels
6. Participate in all meetings and trainings
7. Successfully complete ServSafe level II certification training
8. Priority to know and use information regarding special dietary needs of children
9. Work in conjunction with other cooks, Nutrition Specialist and Food Service Supervisor to plan menus
10. Transport food in approved containers in a timely manner
11. Responsible for providing and maintaining a safe and effective classroom/center environment that ensures the safety and well-being of children.
12. Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 6 months experience in food service and high school diploma or GED preferred; basic understanding demonstrated of safe food handling practices; Must complete all trainings required by ODJFS, CACFP, Health Department and Head Start Regulations
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable in accordance with the Agency’s vehicle insurance policy.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.), potentially emotionally distraught individuals and has exposure to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions. Ability to sit/stand for a lengthy period of time, stoop, bend and lift (up to 50 lbs.) while attending to the needs of children. Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.
