Position Title: Staff Pharmacist-PRN
Position Description: This position is integral to ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, providing clinical expertise, and delivering exceptional patient care and oversee all pharmacy operations in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy.
Classification: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Supervision: Reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the pharmacy operations and regulatory compliance in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy
- Accurately and promptly fill all prescriptions, ensuring adherence to dosage and administration guidelines
- Ensures proper storage and security of pharmaceuticals
- Provides information to all clinical employees, including practitioners, regarding new pharmaceuticals, warnings, dosages, usages, incompatibles, contraindications, and availability of drugs
- Send all correspondence, education, and pertinent information to patients and employees in a timely manner
- Review prescriptions for potential Drug-Drug Interactions (DDIs), Food-Drug Interactions (FDIs), allergies, and misuse
- Remain knowledgeable on the most current 340B requirements and regulations and provide updated information to patients and employees
- Maintain comprehensive patient profiles and pharmacy records to facilitate accurate dispensing and continuity of care
- Provide counseling to patients on the proper use and potential side effects of prescribed medications
- Supervise all pharmacy staff and students ensuring compliance with best practices and regulatory standards in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy
- Collaborates with all departments to provide patients with the best possible care
- Completes all necessary billing for the pharmacy utilizing the pharmacy software
- Ensures completion of all necessary billing for the pharmacy is completed utilizing the pharmacy software
- Oversees the pharmacy techs when posting reimbursements from insurance companies using the pharmacy software
- Completes inventory management in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Manage and oversee the patient assistance program to ensure access to medications for eligible patients
- Ensure adherence to current and new Federal and State laws, including 340b integrity regulations.
- Collaborate with Clinical Pharmacist to answer drug information questions from providers and provide educational in-services to medical and dental staff in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy
- Oversees the daily pharmacy operations and regulatory compliance in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess, plan, and advocate for services that meet individual patient health needs
- Evaluate patient care services through research and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and disease management services to optimize therapeutic outcomes
- Work with the Medical Director to establish and maintain an Antibiotic Stewardship program in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy
- Assist in regulatory audits to meet compliance and regulatory requirements
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including common work areas, for patients and staff
- Provide pharmacy data and reports to be shared with the Management team and Board
- Demonstrate ongoing professionalism and commitment to advancing self and the profession.
- Operates in accordance with established policies, protocols, and guidelines
- Authorizes prescription refills in alignment with clinic policies and patient needs
- Act as a preceptor for pharmacy students, providing guidance and mentorship in clinical and operational pharmacy practice
- Leads P&T committee meeting and attends all other committee meetings as required
- Adheres to the standards and policies of the Organizational Privacy/Security and Compliance Programs, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, OIG, guidelines, other State and Federal laws). This also includes reporting to the Board of Directors, Compliance Officer, Privacy Officer, or supervisor any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.

Working Conditions: This position operates primarily in an outpatient clinic environment, with occasional requirements to assist in other pharmacy-related tasks as needed. The Director of Pharmacy may need to sit and/or stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects (up to 30 pounds).
Physical Factors:
Lifting: Up to 30 pounds 4-5 times a day 5-10 pounds routinely.
Carrying: Up to 30 pounds 5-10 times a day; 5-10 pounds routinely.
Standing: 15-130 minutes at a time 4-6 hours a day.
Walking: 5-10 minutes at a time throughout the day.
Sitting: 15-30 minutes at a time 2-4 hours a day
Driving: 15-60 minutes at a time throughout the day.
Vision: Color distinction necessary.
Hearing: No greater loss than 40dB average for 500, 1000, 2000 Hz
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience as a pharmacist, preferably in an outpatient setting.
- Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, including 340B, dispensing, inventory management, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively counsel patients and collaborate within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Commitment to continuing education and staying updated on advancements in pharmacy practice and healthcare regulations.
- Preferred knowledge using pharmacy software (Pioneer)
- Bi-lingual skills-preferred.
Requirements:
- Must have a Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy
- Must have and maintain license in good standing with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
- Must have knowledge and experience using 340B
- Must be certified to give immunizations
- Must pass a background check
- Must have and maintain current BLS/CPR certification
- Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
