POSITION OBJECTIVE : The Mentor Program Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the Mentor Program and collaborates closely with the Assistant Director of Youth Services to increase the amount of and quality of connections to a supportive adult. This position supports and improves the well-being of young people experiencing the child welfare system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Recruits, retain, manage, and engage volunteer mentors throughout the program.
  • Coordinate with the team to screen all mentor funding requests for potential matches with a volunteer.
  • Conducts targeted community outreach and recruitment to grow the mentor network for adolescent youth in foster care. Ensure appropriate screening and background checks of prospective mentors are completed.
  • Deliver presentations to case managers, IL specialists, caregivers, and other relevant stakeholders to provide education and information about the program and benefits of a supportive adult connection and to identify youth in need of mentors.
  • Cultivate partnerships with community organizations to provide support for mentors and mentees.
  • Collect the mentor volunteer’s monthly activities and hours through an online or other database.
  • Document youth that are connected to mentors in ARGOS and provide regular updates to the case manager assigned.
  • Empower mentors and youth via personnel development activities. Facilitate training as needed.
  • Develop and facilitate mentor and caregiver orientation and training sessions. These sessions include program operations, goal setting, and the unique needs of youth in foster care.
  • Create and distribute surveys to youth, caregivers, and case managers to gather progress of participant youth at regular intervals for each mentor match relationship throughout the year.
  • Maintain a database of prospective mentors, current mentors, and mentees. Make mentor matches based on interests, preferences, and location of both the mentors and youth. Coordinate these matches appropriately.
  • Monitor and maintain regular contact, through in-person meetings, phone calls, and other resources the activities of mentor / mentee relationships, and make recommendations to improve the value of the relationship. Provide ongoing support for the mentor matches.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date reports on all youth in foster care participating in the program, in consultation with agency staff.
  • Analyze data related to monthly reporting from mentors, youth, and case managers on the overall impact of the supportive adult connection and the outcomes of the youth that participate.
  • Maintain reports on the budgetary and program activity matters.
  • Participate in creation and annual reviews of Unit Policy and Procedure Manuals to ensure all policy and procedures reflect current state, federal and system of care requirements.
  • Participate in the agency strategic plan and quality improvement processes.
  • An ability to perform essential job functions consistently safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, & local standards, including meeting qualitative & quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Ability to comply with all personnel policies & procedures.

    QUALIFICATIONS : REQUIRED :

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or human services field
  • Knowledge and at least 2 years’ experience working in the child welfare system.
  • Experience working with adolescents or at-risk youth.
  • Experience in volunteer management
  • PREFERRED :

  • Certification or specialized training in mentorship or volunteer management.
  • Master’s degree in social work or human services field
  • SKILLS : REQUIRED :

  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with youth, mentors, agency and other stakeholder staff, and members of the community.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust workload, as necessary.
  • Ability to analyze, integrate and report data.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff, subordinates, and constituents.
  • Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence & sensitivity to population served.
  • Ability to travel.
  • PREFERRED :

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating in individual and large group settings.
  • SPECIAL CONDITIONS :

  • Thorough Background Screening upon hire including FBI, FDLE, Local Law check, Employment Reference check, DMV check, Criminal Records check, Social Security Trace & Drug Screening. FDLE check will be run at least every 5 years.
  • On-call assignments- N / A
  • Travel- local : 30% per week, long-distance : 5% per month.
