The Manager of Medical Affairs is responsible for creating a high performance environment, with three specific roles including: (1) Timely and accurate creation of required deliverables such as reports, (2) Appropriate monitoring and management for departmental processes, (3) Support for high-level departmental activity such as facilitating strategic-planning and plan execution.  This position will work closely with the CMO and Deputy CMO, and will help ensure coordination within the medical affairs department both via communication and monitoring for alignment of departmental activity.  The focus of work will span across the areas of medical affairs to include utilization management, credentialing, integrated care, quality improvement and evidence-based practice.  

Essential Functions

  • Manage the CMO and/or Deputy CMO workflow and priorities by anticipating essential next steps.
  • Organizational and project management skills with familiarity with the behavioral healthcare field 
  • Ensure critical, high priority work assignments are successfully completed in a high quality, time-sensitive manner. 
  • Oversee duties that include time management, information flow, communication, and decision-making processes.
  • Problem solves at a high level and anticipate departmental needs. 
  • Identify, spearhead, and lead special projects. 
  • Facilitate agendas and meetings and conduct necessary follow-up.
  • Contribute to discussions around operational decisions and changes to the CMO’s department.  
  • Ensure collaboration with executive team members to determine and prioritize clinical strategies.
  • Develop and implement strategies and feedback loops for increasing communication across the division and organization as a whole. 
  • Work cross-departmentally and able to identify and troubleshoot larger system needs. 
  • Make recommendations around how to align around common goals and objectives. 
  • Work closely with the Deputy CMO and CMO to create synergy and work streams across the Senior Directors. 
  • Facilitate workgroups, lead meetings, and be a stand in for the CMO and Deputy CMO.
  • Plan, coordinate, and keep contents of a meeting focused.
  • Provide supervision to Administrative Assistant as needed.
  • Manage related reinvestment plans and special contracts.
  • Support the CMO and Deputy CMO in development and implementation of policies.
  • Prepare policy briefings, talking points, presentations, and proposals for internal and external meetings.
  • Draft and edit various documents including internal/external correspondence.
  • Conduct and assemble research, track other program models, and generate ideas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements: 

  • Education: Master’s degree in relevant field; Doctoral Degree Preferred
  • Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience. Experience with behavioral health and substance use services and managed care preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret utilization reports
  • Understanding of mental health and substance abuse services or interventions
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in MS Office and able to type at least 20 words per minute
  • Flexible and able to adjust to evolving needs.  
  • Ability to optimize processes and improve efficiency.
  • Comfortable working with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Forward thinking and able to anticipate needs. 
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Detail oriented

Philadelphia Residency Requirement:

  • The successful candidate must be a current Philadelphia resident or become a resident within six months of hire.
