What are the responsibilities and job description for the Winter Shelter Specialist (Full Time) position at Community Care Alliance?
WINTER SHELTER ASSISTANT (FULL TIME)
Shift: 2nd and 3rd
POSITION SUMMARY:
Ensure general safety and structure of the shelter by monitoring resident activities as they pertain to shelter rules and policies. Additionally, ensure general safety of the residents by ensuring the building structure is properly cared for and maintained.
- Monitor the Shelter space, keeping eyes scanning the floor at all times, in collaboration with another Shelter Assistant. One person is always scanning the floor and the other monitors the bathrooms.
- Ensure that all guests sign in.
- Assist with distribution of food, warm clothing, and other resources/supplies.
- De-escalate crises as they arise, coordinating with emergency services and/or public safety as necessary.
- Respond to guest concerns.
- Coordinate with Division managers to assist clients to access additional agency programs and services and/or those of other local agencies.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
High School diploma or equivalency and/or experience in related field preferred. Second language welcome.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work in a shelter environment, with individuals who are unhoused.
