Patients available in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties.
Paid per visit. Weekends not required, but available.
POSITION SUMMARY: The physical therapist assistant (PTA) is a licensed health care professional with responsibilities that include carrying out therapeutic treatments and documenting the status of adult home health patients under the direction of the registered/licensed physical therapist (R/LPT) according to physician’s orders. The PTA works as a member of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team and is supervised by the PT in accordance with the guidelines required by the Commonwealth of PA. The PTA must be approved by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to work in an indirect supervision setting. The PTA does not carry out admission, recertification, resumption of care, transfer/discharge assessments nor care management responsibilities.
CLINICAL SKILLS
- Makes home visits to patients in accordance with the physician's plan of care/treatment as developed with the supervising physical therapist.
- Recognizes common emergent patient care situations.
- Demonstrates competency in physical therapy treatment skills.
- Performs physical therapy treatment tasks to restore the patient to the maximum level of independence in independent living/daily living skills, and sensory and motor function, implementing the therapy program as delegated by and supervised by registered/licensed physical therapists.
- Makes pertinent observations of patient clinical status and response to treatment.
- Assists in teaching patients and in planning for discharge from physical therapy services.
- Adheres to medical orders for treatment and visit frequency plus authorized visits for managed care patients.
- Assists the patient in the selection, instruction and troubleshooting of home medical equipment, supplies and services.
- Adheres to medical orders for treatment and visit frequency and authorized visits for managed care clients.
- Maintains and utilize supplies responsibly alerting PT to needs for equipment and non-routine supplies, as necessary.
- Participates in care conferences as requested.
