CCI Health & Wellness Services empowers patients to partner with staff for an unparalleled healthcare experience. We deliver high quality, affordable, care to every patient during all stages of life providing services to the medically under-served at 14 sites in Montgomery and northern Prince George's counties. Our services include primary care, behavioral health, dental, adolescent health, HIV and infectious disease testing and treatment, prenatal, and family planning. CCI Health & Wellness Services is also the largest provider of WIC services in the state of Maryland.

We are looking for a Medical Assistant at our Silver Spring health center for the Refugee Health Assessment Program. CCI provides comprehensive initial health assessments to newly arrived refugees, asylees, and certain other immigrants, according to requirements specified by the Maryland Department of Health Office of Immigrant Health. The Medical Assistant will perform clinical and administrative tasks for both Pediatric and Adult patients under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, RN, and the Health Center Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and record vital signs, record patient interviews, history and chief complaints
  • Perform EKGs, Phlebotomy and the collection of lab specimens
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments. Collaborate with RHA Coordinator to ensure that patients

with higher priority health conditions are given priority scheduling.

  • Perform outreach calls to patients and / or specialty offices as requested
  • Prepare for upcoming visits by printing out and preparing information for preload vaccines and
  • scanning in documents

  • Regularly monitors all patients with positive Tuberculin Skin Test or Quantiferon test and ensures chest
  • x-ray is done to rule out active tuberculosis TB as well as coordinating patient treatment of latent TB.

  • Conduct pre-visit planning for all RHA providers for the second visit, including notation of abnormal lab
  • results, whether patient received presumptive parasite treatment overseas, and assisting RN in

    determining vaccines that are due for all patients under 18.

  • Assist with pre-authorization forms for prescriptions and work with MCOs and pharmacies to get
  • approval and prescriptions filled and delivered to patients.

  • Assist in the management, documentation, and development of all programs under the grant.
  • Qualifications

  • High School graduate, or equivalent
  • Must have medical assistant certification
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
  • Ability to implement, monitor, and manage grant-specific requirements within the primary care
  • setting.

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and / or infection control standards.
  • Prepare and administer vaccines
  • Cultural competence in the health care setting, including communicating with patients of low health
  • literacy level and working with interpreters

  • Maintain supplies, equipment and / or maintain quality control standards.
  • Knowledge of methods, procedures and protocols, including federal, state and local laws for the
  • handling and disposal of hazardous biochemical waste products.

  • Preferred Bilingual in English and Spanish
