MED-PHARM TECH

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Pharmacist, the pharmacy technician assists with the day-to-day activities in the pharmacy. This position will also be required to work with providers and other CCI staff to assist in the provision of quality primary medical services.

1. Provide customer service to patients dropping off or picking up prescription orders
2. Enters and processes prescription ordered into the computer and consults with pharmacist as needed
3. Retrieve, count, and set-up orders to support the work on the pharmacist.
4. Creates a profile of the patient’s health and insurance information in the computer system and updates patients’ profiles as needed
5. Answers and effectively responds to phone calls
6. Assist the pharmacist and other medical staff, under the supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and organizational policy and protocols.
7. Communicates with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescriptions claims and trouble-shoots insurance coverage to ensure resolution
8. Receives inventory, stock shelves, rotates stock, and verifies all associated documentation.
9. Prepares pharmacy inventory, orders medications and other supplies as needed.
10. Conducts end of the month inventory, removes and disposes of any expired stock per organizational policy/protocol/procedures.
11. Communicates with medial staff to obtain refill authorization and refers patients for appointments, as necessary.
12. Operates cash drawer at point of sales.
13. Closely follows all policies and procedures pertaining to operating a 340b pharmacy.
14. Help with record keeping requirements of the pharmacy.
15. Communicates and works closely with the pharmacist to provide safe, efficient, and accurate care to all patients.
16. Complies with CCI’s Policies and Procedures, Standards of Conduct, Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance.

1. Assist the Pharmacist in training new Pharmacy employees.
2. Performs back-office duties as described in the Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant job descriptions, such as data uploading of referral notes for patients, or patient interviews for medication reconciliation review.
3. Front office duties as requires or assigned.
4. May travel to provide coverage in other sites or to participate in training programs or continuing education.
5. Understands role in Disaster Plan and that safety is a condition of employment.
6. Serves on various CCI and community committees as requested/required.
7. Maintains any necessary educational or licensure requirements.
8. Other duties as assigned.

1. Pharmacy Technician certification required.
2. Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
3. 1-2 years of experience working in a retail pharmacy or FQHC, a plus.
4. Understanding of the 340B discount program.
5. Ability to work with people from different cultural, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.

• Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday 8:00 – 4:30pm
• This position will be 100% on-site, customer facing at CCI’s Gaithersburg location.
