General Summary: The primary responsibilities of the faculty are to teach and to develop the curriculum. To meet these responsibilities, faculty must remain knowledgeable about advances in their disciplines, in learning theory, and in pedagogy. Faculty portfolios will include contributions and program development and show evidence of ongoing professional development. The Fellows program has the additional responsibility of engagement in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives of the college.

Requirements: Fellows in Ethnic and Diversity Studies (ETH) are expected to possess a combination of academic expertise, teaching experience, demonstrated community outreach, and a commitment to advancing culturally responsive curriculum and equity-minded practices. This position requires a Master’s degree or at least eighteen (18) graduate credits in Ethnic Studies, Diversity Studies, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Education, or a related field.

Duties

These duties encompass a range of responsibilities aimed at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the college community, while also supporting the academic and personal success of students from diverse backgrounds. This is a 37.5 -hour a week position and depending on the # of credits taught in a given semester, the number of hours dedicated to #2 -12 is fluid.

  • Teach up to nine (9) credits per semester in Ethnic and Diversity Studies courses, ensuring high-quality instruction and adherence to curriculum standards. Maintain weekly office hours as dictated in the CBA.
  • Provide oversight and leadership for the HBCU Transfer Equity Initiative, aligning with CCAC’s mission to expand opportunities for culturally diverse students to earn an associate degree at CCAC with the intention of transferring to Minority Serving Institutions. These institutions include Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and Asian American and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AAPISIs). Assist with increasing MSI articulation and partnership agreement options.
  • Serve as the ETH Discipline Coordinator.
  • Initiate and lead the Ethnic and Diversity Studies program review, conducting assessments and implementing improvements as necessary to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Participate in assessment activities related to the certificate program in Ethnic and Diversity Studies, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and program goals.
  • Engage in strategic community outreach efforts to support students from diverse populations, promoting the program and fostering inclusivity within the college community as well as externally.
  • Serve as a member of the Equity & Diversity Committee to promote diversity, equity and inclusion efforts for faculty, as well college-wide. Partner with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Student Life and Engagement Department, and Center for Teaching and Learning in these efforts as they align with the college’s Five Commitments to foster caring and equity.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to job duties, ensuring compliance with college policies and procedures.
  • Participate in college projects, surveys, studies, and reports that relate to the discipline, the program and/or activities that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Participate in the required professional development activities to assure currency in both discipline, knowledge and instructional methods.
  • Support the college’s mission and goals.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Clearances: Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
