What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Technician III - Horticulture position at Community College of Baltimore County?
The purpose of this class is to provide advanced-level assistance in the day-to-day office support for a specialized instructional environment.
Associates degree including a minimum of 12 Credits in the Basic Sciences (with at least one course in Botany
or Horticulture) and three years related experience. Additional related coursework is preferred.
- Assist the Program Director in scheduling all aspects of program operations including student recruitment, career days for local schools, meetings and program related activities.
- Maintain organized and up to date files for the director and department files, insuring accessibility and confidentiality as required.
- Collect student data and generate reports as directed to support program assessment and administrative decision-making.
- Order and take regular inventory of lab equipment and supplies.
- Under the direction of the director assist students and faculty in assigned area by providing technical and administrative support.
- Work collaboratively with instructors to support the efficient operation of program activities, including labs and fieldwork.
- Maintain all records pertinent to daily operations, including attendance, and procedural documents.
- Under the direction of the director assist in the supervision of student aides and temporary/hourly staff.
- Assist with specimen preparation and other instructional materials for classroom demonstrations and labs for classroom instruction.
- Perform in-class instruction on supplemental issues.
- When required assist in preparing laboratory materials for lab class instruction.
- Maintain chemical and lab safety standards.
- Provide administrative support for the Horticulture Program Director including typing, scheduling, filing, copying materials and maintaining records of HORT Program students. Organize and manage instructional materials to ensure accessibility and efficiency.
- Support HORT lectures and labs by purchasing, collecting, and identifying plant specimens for instruction and examination. Prepare and label plants for use in gardens and instructional settings. Serve as a resource for students, faculty and staff regarding the requirements of the HORT program.
- When needed collaborate with the department gardener as to support horticultural operations and maintenance of instructional gardens.
- As directed by the program director, train and supervise work study students, co-op students and interns.
