BASIC FUNCTION
To provide technical support and assist in the management of all aspects of the Vermont State Colleges (VSC) network infrastructure. The VSC network covers 25 campus and academic center locations, as well as two data centers.

Location: This position will be based at the Castleton Campus with a hybrid work schedule. Travel to VSC campus and academic center locations is expected.

BASIC FUNCTION
To provide technical support and assist in the management of all aspects of the Vermont State Colleges (VSC) network infrastructure. The VSC network covers 25 campus and academic center locations, as well as two data centers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of all local network infrastructure, including wired, wireless, and supporting components.
- Configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, wireless access point, and Ethernet technologies.
- Evaluate local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) performance data to ensure sufficient availability or speed, to identify network problems, or for disaster recovery purposes.
- Perform routine maintenance or standard repairs to networking components or equipment.
- Provides second-level technical support to users concerning network system operations.
- Work with VSC Cyber Security team to maintain network equipment logging and incident response.
- Works with Infrastructure Systems team for data center networking needs. SAN and various communication requirements included.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of VSC network architecture.
- Coordinate efforts with Manager of Network and Telecommunications for capacity planning.
- Providing technical advice and assistance on network resources and technologies to IT staff throughout the VSC.
- Communicating and coordinating with vendor partners on installations and troubleshooting issues.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline and three years of experience in design, troubleshooting, and management of medium- or large-sized enterprise TCP/IP networks required.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network problems.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a cross-functional team required.
- Experience with network performance monitoring, and debugging tools, 802.1x, Radius and/or SAML/SSO authentication, wireless, network intrusion detection, IPv6, IP video, VoIP, OSPF, BGP and network and server virtualization are highly desirable.
- Experience with Aruba, Fortinet and Cisco networking is highly desirable.
- Experience in higher education is desirable.
Knowledge
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology infrastructure including wired, wireless, WAN, data center, telecommunications, and the Internet.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with user populations.
- Strong planning, administrative, and organizational skills.

- Demonstrated understanding of networking technologies and protocols, specifically Ethernet and TCP/IP, with knowledge of how they work together in an enterprise network.
- Experience in enterprise network design and implementation, particularly in IP routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, VRF).
- Experience working with network security technologies and applying industry best practices.
- Experience with multiple networking products and vendors, including routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers, and firewalls.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent relationship management, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and conceptual skills.
- Strong focus on customer service.
- Hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting complex enterprise networking infrastructure across multiple locations using multiple vendors.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to use data-informed decision-making to inform resource allocation, processes, and procedures.
- Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop changes or alternatives.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position include bending, kneeling, crawling, and moving objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to re-architect or design changes for improvement to the existing environment.
