The tutoring program at Nashua Community College is designed to assist currently enrolled students in multiple content areas. Tutors provide services to students for all levels of writing and math, as well as other subject areas. Tutors encourage students to become independent learners and support them in reaching their college goals. Tutoring modalities could include in-person, online, or embedded in classroom.
Responsibilities :
Tutor students one-on-one, or in small groups, in college-level math assignments.
Maintain regular schedule. Arrive on time and work for complete scheduled shift.
Meet with students for 30 minutes average, on a drop-in basis and potentially by appointment.
Function as an academic coach, clarifying assignment details and requirements, teaching study skills as needed and referring students to supplemental resources when necessary.
Work with students to understand mathematical concepts, mathematical reasoning and proper mathematical notation.
Maintain confidentiality of sessions and discussions.
Keep accurate documentation of tutoring sessions.
Promptly submit completed timesheets to Tutoring Coordinator every two weeks.
Attend tutor meetings throughout academic year if possible.
Be welcoming to students regardless of culture, place of origin, gender expression, etc.
Qualifications and / or skills desired
Bachelor’s degree in tutoring subject area or closely related field.
Significant teaching or tutoring experience, either in education or business fields.
Experience with diverse student populations, especially at the college level, a plus.
Excellent listening and communication skills.
Employment
Tutors are hired on a temporary, semester by semester, basis as needed.
