What are the responsibilities and job description for the Online Learning Program Mentor position at Community College System of New Hampshire?
SCOPE OF WORK: As a member of the Office of Online Learning, the Online Learning Mentor provides responsive, accessible, student-centered engagement and guidance with students in online programs. The Mentor assists the Director in planning and coordinating activities that increase online learning opportunities and the engagement of students enrolled in online courses. This position reports to the Director of Online Learning at NHTI – Concord’s Community College (NHTI).

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Connects with and mentor students enrolled in online programs demonstrating a personalized and exceptionally supportive online learning experience.
- Assists in creating a virtual campus experience for students in online programs including, but not limited to virtual orientation, training resources, and virtual engagement opportunities.
- Prepares students enrolled in online programs for learning online by creating an onboarding path designed to increase student success in their first term and beyond.
- Prepares faculty for teaching online by maintaining and facilitating training for teaching online and ensuring the online faculty handbook is current.
- Collaborates with NHTI staff, including colleagues in the Accessibility, Advising, Admissions, Bursar, Financial Aid, and Marketing offices as well as Academic Department Chairs to ensure timely and accurate communication with students enrolled in online programs.
- Connects with future students who express interest in our online programs, host virtual orientations, and promote our online programs and learning online through social media.
- Collaborates with the Director of Online Learning with routine office functions, identifying data needs, and communication planning related to federal regulations and accreditation requirements of online programs.
- Supports students enrolled in our online programs in their pursuit for a successful, personal, and complete educational journey.
- Gathers data and prepares reports for internal and external use, as directed.
- Complies with all NHTI, CCSNH, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: One year of experience in providing administrative, customer, and/or technical support with academic technologies, on-line learning, and/or creating web-based materials and information.
License/Certification: None required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university. Experience in distance education teaching and/or online faculty training. Knowledge and understanding of online curriculum design, web-based tools and technologies, and application of new technologies to online teaching and learning.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Ability to use empathy with an understanding of the student experience to develop and provide support solutions for students in online programs. Excellent oral, written, and nonverbal communication skills in English; excellent critical thinking, problem solving, data literacy, information literacy, and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow specific instructions in gathering facts, data, to identify existing or potential problems. Ability to learn and adhere to applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. Ability to meet with the general public, NHTI stakeholders, current and potential students, and NHTI faculty and staff to promote and explain NHTI online programs and services. A vision and commitment to increasing access to high quality online teaching and learning. Must be willing to maintain appearance and decorum appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
