What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tech Hub Academic Advisor position at Community College System of New Hampshire?
This is a grant funded position with funding secured through September 30, 2029.
SCOPE OF WORK: Advises and provides support for students entering fields in the Tech Hub region of Manchester, NH through the ReGen Valley ARMI grant and performs various functions associated with community outreach, language acquisition support, and recruiting. The position will be a member of the Manchester Community College Academic Advising Team and reports to the Director of Academic Advising.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Serves as the Student Support point person for students in the Common Campus and Center for Bio and Advanced Manufacturing (CBAM), including work with necessary offices at MCC to recruit, onboard, and retain students.
- Supports the onboarding and registration of students in Tech Hub related fields, specifically in the areas of program selection related to career direction and academic planning.
- Serves as the Academic Advisor for entry into Tech Hub-related fields including education, early childhood education, healthcare, auto-manufacturing, and biotechnology and supports student registration, retention, SAP, and other MCC policies and procedures.
- Connects students in Tech Hub related fields to internships, industry partners and future employment opportunities and collaborates with Tech Hub faculty to stay current with opportunities for students within these programs.
- Collaborates with the Language Acquisition Coordinator and the Advisor in the Build Back Better Grant on bridge programs for language acquisition students.
- Establishes community partnerships with ReGen Valley consortium members, Manchester School District, and greater Manchester community for access to higher education and workforce.
- Serves on committees and workgroups related to Tech Hub and CBAM planning.
- Works with colleges/universities on college transfer opportunities in Tech Hub related fields.
- Works with the Academic Advising Center to facilitate department and college wide activities and events.
- Works to provide remote support for students and to offer innovative approaches to student recruitment.
- Works with students to establish placement using multiple measure assessment.
- Works with staff in the Academic Advising Center to be proficient on Navigate, Banner, DegreeWorks, Career Coach and other software to accurately advise students.
- Serves on college and/or system committees as assigned
- Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Communications, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Two (2) years’ experience as an academic advisor, transfer counselor, career counselor, career planning and employment services counselor, or related job experience within academic affairs, workforce development, or continuing education within an educational setting.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Relevant work experience within higher education. Knowledge of academic/admissions counseling as it relates to a post-secondary institution. Experience working with language acquisition students and in academic/student support. Ability to build community partnerships.
License/Certification: Valid New Hampshire driver’s license or access to transportation.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of advising principles and techniques. Considerable knowledge of learning, behavior, and emotional patterns of young adults. Knowledge of advising best practices and understanding of career and transfer information. Ability to work with faculty, industry partners, and community organizations. Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare written reports. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
