Position type: Non-permanent, hourly.

Salary Range: $19.50 - $25.96

Open continuous.

Starting salary for this position is: $19.50 (Hourly)

Employees hired at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. An employee hired at anything higher than the entry step of the range will have salary step advancement after 12 months and every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase.

About the Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1 - Non-permanent, PT/Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

This position supports Adult Basic Education (ABE) division faculty and counselors by providing student support for cohort meetings and orientation sessions. This position works directly with students to support instruction.

Must be able to communicate with students in person and using a variety of technologies (Zoom, Teams, Canvas, etc.).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the High School plus (HS ) cohort.

Cohort meetings are non-credit lessons prepared by ABE faculty. The lesson topics match the student’s experience from the start to the end of the quarter. Topics may include syllabus review, study plans, exam prep, mental health and time management.

  • Reserve and set up the meeting spaces. Schedule HS cohort meetings each quarter. *
  • Create and host video conference (Zoom, Teams, etc.) session for each meeting. Make sure students at home or at rural campuses can attend the meetings. *
  • Help faculty during cohort lessons. This may include tutoring or supplemental instruction to help students complete assignments. *
  • Lead cohort meetings according to the faculty/counselor’s lesson plan. *
  • Monitor Canvas messages. Act as a teaching assistant in the cohort’s Canvas section. Respond to students. Flag faculty to respond to students when needed. *

Coordinate and assist with program orientation.

Orientation sessions guide students through quarterly registration processes.

  • Work one-on-one with students to ensure the student enrolls in the right classes as planned by the ABE counselor. Check student schedules throughout the quarter. *
  • Take the lead in coordinating with other departments involved in orientation. Work with counselors, faculty and registration (pathway) specialists. *
  • Prepare student orientation packets. Make copies and organize materials. Send electronic copies to those who need them. *
  • Assist ABE counselors and pathway specialists with student communications and general follow-up with ABE students as assigned. *
  • Send mid-quarter appointment reminders. Follow up with students who do not make appointments. Call students who have not participated or responded to emails from counselors. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance Spokane Colleges’ strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • Ability to learn the various degrees/certificates and/or admission/registration cycles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • High degree of competency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word and other video conferencing software (Zoom, Teams, etc.).
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and/or weekends for assigned Adult Basic Education Division program activities.
  • Ability to track student progress and pull from various data reports.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member as required.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with English as a Second Language learners.
  • Two or more years of experience in Student Services or related area.
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Experience using an integrated student management system (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, Workday, etc.).
  • Experience using a customer relationship management system (e.g., TargetX, Salesforce, Starfish, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in an office and classroom environment with frequent interruptions and background noise.
  • Work is sedentary.
  • Frequent use of computers.
  • Visual focus and strain.
  • Work directly with students/clients.
  • Work involves constant interruptions and the requirement to answer on demand questions by phone, in person, or electronically.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Non-permanent, hourly position.
  • Work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • May require local or regional travel.
  • This position is eligible for coverage under a collective bargaining agreement. Membership is optional.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Benefits Information

Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; WA State Retirement Plan; vacation and sick leave begin to accrue at the rate of one (1) day per month, upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time, leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.) This position is designated a bargaining unit position and union membership is not a condition of employment. Leave accruals and usage are governed by the WFSE collective bargaining agreement.
