This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. About the Mathematics Instructor - Adjunct - Spokane Community College
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare for and instruct classes in Mathematics. Class modality may be in person, hybrid, or online.
- Provide availability to students through a combination of office hours, e-mail and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
- Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback.
- Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, student safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics or in a closely related field with graduate level Math coursework.
- Experience teaching Mathematics.
- Commitment to fostering and supporting student success.
- Understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of SCC.
- The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One year of full time post-secondary teaching experience (graduate students are encouraged to apply).
- Experience with non-STEM algebra or introductory college level transfer Mathematics classes.
- Ability to assist students with a wide range of mathematical skills.
Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Benefits Information
Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
