Job Title: Summer Grounds/Custodial Worker
Department: Building and Grounds
Reports To: Director of Building and Grounds and Site Principal
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
SUMMARY
Works a temporary summer-only day shift at an assigned school site and performs custodial, light general work, and groundskeeping.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
Performs a variety of custodial duties such as mopping, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, disinfecting etc.
Moves furniture and equipment.
Makes deliveries of supplies and equipment between buildings.
Performs simple ongoing preventive maintenance.
Works with staff to maintain a safe and secure environment in the school building and on the school grounds.
Empties trash and garbage containers.
Performs basic Groundskeeper duties such as mowing and fertilizing as directed.
Performs related work as required.
Ability to:
Understand and follow oral and written directions
Operate various hand tools (brooms, mops, dusters)
Perform or Contact supervisor for repairs when needed.
Maintain inventory and simple records.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Must hold a vailid driver's license and be at least 18 years old
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with a minimum of supervision while demonstrating an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors and will occasionally work indoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Salary: $15.00 an hour with no benefits
This is a short term, temporary, non-union position and the position will end August, 2025.
