The Opportunity

CDCLI is seeking an Attorney to join our dynamic, diverse, and mission-driven team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, award-winning company that is at the forefront of the sustainable housing community on Long Island.

The ideal candidate will be equipped to work in a fast-paced environment, support the implementation of new initiatives, communicate superbly in writing and verbally, and maintain a high level of attention to detail. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the extensive capacity to work within virtual space, bringing a demonstrated understanding of various online tools, resources, and platforms, and be committed to the mission of CDCLI.

Community Development Corporation of Long Island (CDCLI) was founded in 1969 when government, business, and civic leaders on Long Island came together to address the growing demand for affordable housing. Today, CDCLI is a regional and national leader in affordable housing and community development and is committed to making residents’ dreams of long-term economic stability come true.

With our mission to “invest in the housing and economic aspirations of individuals and families by providing solutions that foster and maintain vibrant, equitable and sustainable communities,” CDCLI remains steadfast to its three pillars of focus: Community Development and Housing for All; Economic Stability; and Advocacy.

Specifically, the Attorney will represent clients in all phases of residential mortgage and tax lien foreclosure proceedings and represent homeowners at foreclosure settlement conferences.

The HomeOwnership Center provides pre-purchase programs including First Time Homebuyer Education and Financial Fitness Education and Coaching, providing detailed information about the mortgage and acquisition process, the financial and material obligations of being a homeowner, how to modify spending behavior, increase savings, and correct credit blemishes before pursuing homeownership. Post-purchase counseling is also available to assist senior citizens with reverse mortgage counseling to determine if tapping into their home’s equity makes sense for them and to advise homeowners at risk of foreclosure of their available options for home retention or transitioning out of the home, including navigating ratios, modifications, and refinance options.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in all phases of residential mortgage and tax lien foreclosure proceedings.

• Negotiate settlements and loan modifications for homeowners.

• Represent homeowners at foreclosure settlement conferences.

• Assist homeowners with non-retention options such as short sale or deed in lieu of foreclosure.

• Represent homeowners in surplus money proceeding following foreclosure auctions.

• Ability to handle a high caseload.

• Community Outreach & Engagement to provide information related to CDCLI Homeownership Center programs and services.

• Provide administrative support by maintaining customer records, inputting data in multiple databases, arranging for customer appointments, generating status reports, and notifying customers of meeting dates.

• Assist customers with collecting documents needed for applying for a mortgage, loan modification package, or for submission to other agencies/funders as needed as applicable.

• Collaborate with external partners and be an Ambassador of CDCLI
