Job Title: Library Assistant Substitute – All Branches
Part Time – 15-20 hours per week.
Reports To: Library Director
Starting Wage: $14.00 per hour or more depending on experience

POSITION SUMMARY
A 15-20 hour per week position to substitute as needed at CDL branches. Available to fill in at all library branch locations: Bancroft, Byron, Corunna, Lennon, Morrice, New Lothrop and Perry. The nature of the work requires flexibility to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours as needed. Hours are scheduled but filling in for last minute staff absences is expected.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Substitute for regularly scheduled staff as needed.
· Greets and assists patrons.
· Provides check in, check out and re shelving materials.
· Assists patrons with online library services via various library apps, downloading digital content, using MeL eResources, Beanstack app and use library calendar software.
· Assist patrons with their library account, including holds, interlibrary loan, program registration, and account issues.
· Provide help with public service for computers, fax, scan and copy documents.
· Performs reader’s advisory
· Maintains neat and orderly library space.
· Assist library staff with library events and programs.
· Work on special projects as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
· High School Diploma.
· Flexible schedule.
· Strong customer service skills.
· Ability to learn library automation software.
· Working knowledge of technology, common computer applications including Microsoft Office, library apps such as Libby & hoopla for digital downloading.
· Ability to efax, scan, copy, save and email documents.
· Punctuality and dependability.
· Ability to complete special projects while maintaining routine duties.
· Knowledge of library operations and services, including an understanding of and adherence to fundamental principles of open access to library materials and the privacy rights of patrons.
· Ability to effectively exercise initiative and independent judgment, and assume responsibility without close supervision.
· Ability to maintain a calm atmosphere, ensure safety, and respond to emergencies.
· Work with patrons of varied backgrounds, ages, and abilities.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
· Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 25 lbs.
· Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time, and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, or crouch
