Position Overview:

We are looking for enthusiastic, attentive staff to lead, support, and motivate children as they enjoy all that camp has to offer. Youth development leaders will be teamed with at least one other YDL to be assigned to a specific group of no more than 20 children. This role involves leading activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers, fostering positive relationships, and serving as a role model and mentor. You should be positive, proactive, and caring while focusing on giving children a fun, safe camp experience. To succeed as a YDL, you should be upbeat, decisive, and responsible. Youth development leaders will report directly to camp supervisors. The starting hourly rate is $12.50. Hours may vary depending on the daily schedule, but typical shifts are 7:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m., 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 9 a.m.-2 p.m., 12:15-5:15 p.m., or 12:30-5:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Children Supervision:

- Lead a group of children throughout daily activities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and engagement.

- Monitor children’s behavior and interactions, intervening when necessary to address conflicts or safety concerns.

- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive group atmosphere, fostering teamwork, respect, and cooperation among children and co-workers.

- Familiarize yourself with children’s allergies, court documents, IEPs, 504 Plans, no media lists, etc.

- Provide constant supervision while in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, outside, and on field trips.

- Keeping constant count of children and being conscious of children arriving and leaving.

2. Activity Planning and Implementation:

- Assist in planning and organizing age-appropriate activities and programs that align with the camp's objectives and the interests of the children.

- Lead and facilitate group activities, games, arts and crafts, sports, and other recreational and educational activities.

- Ensure that activities are engaging, stimulating, and accessible to all children, regardless of skill level or ability.

- Attend field trips and provide guidance and assist as needed.

- Adapt to new situations and sudden changes or problems.

- Attend and participate in staff meetings before summer camp and weekly during summer camp.

3. Role Modeling and Mentorship:

- Serve as a positive role model for the children, demonstrating enthusiasm, leadership, and good sportsmanship.

- Encourage children to try new activities, build confidence, and develop social and interpersonal skills.

- Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to campers, helping them navigate challenges and develop resilience.

- Always be aware of your surroundings and be conscientious of your conversations.

4. Safety and Risk Management:

- Maintain a safe and secure environment for children by enforcing camp rules, safety guidelines, and emergency procedures.

- Conduct regular safety checks of equipment, facilities, and activity areas, reporting any hazards or concerns to camp leadership.

- Respond promptly and effectively to accidents, injuries, or emergencies, following established protocols and procedures.

5. Communication and Collaboration:

- Communicate regularly and effectively with campers, fellow staff members, and camp leadership to coordinate activities, address concerns, and ensure a positive camp experience.

- Collaborate with other youth development leaders and camp staff to plan and implement camp-wide events, theme days, and special activities.

6. Record Keeping

-Keep all documentation up to date. This includes but is not limited to, classroom attendance, incident and behavior reports, bus seating charts, and more.

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Must be 18 years old or older.

- Ability to participate in physical activities, such as running, swimming, and standing for an extensive amount of time.

- Ability to pass a background check.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and connect with children of varying ages and backgrounds.

- Enthusiasm, energy, and a passion for working with children in an outdoor or recreational setting.

- Ability to lead activities, manage group dynamics, and maintain a safe and inclusive environment for campers.

- First Aid and CPR certification preferred, but not required. Training is available.

- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to changing situations and priorities in a fast-paced camp environment.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $10.70 - $13.40 per hour

Schedule:

  • Afternoon shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Morning shift
