Market Manager Position Description
General:
The Market Manager, sole employee of the Community Farmers Market, ensures that the seasonal market is a vibrant hub for local food and goods, grown and produced by small businesses. The Manager works with and answers to the Board of Directors, and supports the vendors, customers, volunteers, and other parties connected to the Market. As the Market‘s representative on site, the Manager supervises the daily operation and adherence to all applicable policies, rules, and other guidelines for a safe and successful market.
Responsibilities
Job duties include:
- Setting up and managing the market day from start to finish including vendor management.
- Managing market day on Tuesdays, June through October with occasional Saturday market days (minimal) 8am-5pm
- Attending Board of Director meetings on the second Wednesday evening of the month. Occasional additional meetings.
- Working with the Board of Directors to develop an annual budget.
- Keeping records and maintaining market funds and accounts.
- Providing agendas and updates at Board meetings and the annual member meeting.
- Assisting with promotional events.
- Assisting with fundraisers and sponsorships.
- Creating and distributing a bi-monthly newsletter.
- Serving as the contact person for market related correspondence.
- Representing the market at informal community functions and meetings.
- Soliciting new vendors and cultivating relationships with current vendors.
- Keeping up to date with protocols and submitting reports as needed for programs such as Market Match (for SNAP), WIC, and others.

Qualifications
Candidate should:
- Be self motivated, reliable, and independent.
- Have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Be able to represent the market and its interests in the public arena.
- Possess a strong knowledge of and familiarity with computers and the use of: Social media platforms, Google docs, sheets, etc., QuickBooks, Canva
- Hold basic budgeting and accounting skills.
- Be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Hold a current WA Drivers License, vehicle, and auto insurance.
- PREFERRED: vehicle capable of towing a small utility trailer and have a secure location for trailer storage.
- PREFERRED: Have management experience.
Compensation:
$17.00 - $20.00 per hour starting, depending on experience.
Hours:
Up to 800 hours per year with the majority of hours May-October. Must be able to work Market days: Tuesdays 8 AM-5 PM (June – October) plus availability to meet with the board once a month. Manager would need to begin working by the beginning of February; the Market is flexible around an earlier start date.
Work Conditions:
This is an outdoor market and takes place in all weather one day per week, occasional Saturday markets. Remainder of the job takes place in an office setting, most of the job could be done from one's home. Physical activity is a regular part of this position including, but not exclusive to, lifting, walking, bending, setting up market booths, weights, tents, and tables.
