What are the responsibilities and job description for the Consumer Loan Underwriter position at Community First Credit Union?

As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you’ll expertly balance loan requests with guidelines, policies, and regulations to ensure the best outcome for all. You’ll also have a voice in actively looking to Find a Way to promote an educational process for those we cannot immediately approve. As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you will:
- Provide outstanding, quality service to external and internal members
- Decision consumer loan requests within loan policy, communicating all needed conditions in writing
- Coach and mentor Member Service Representatives to avoid incomplete loan applications
- Identify and recommend opportunities to help members save money and meet their financial goals
- Review valuations, income/tax returns and title work needed to finalize loan conditions
- Balance productivity and attention to detail to meet member service levels while offering the highest level of underwriting skill/expertise
- Recognize viable and creative loan alternatives when initial requests are not feasible; giving members choices and options
- Work well under pressure to meet multiple deadlines and exercise sound judgment
An ideal candidate will have a combination of:
- Bachelor’s degree in the area of Business, Finance, or a related field; five years of lending/underwriting experience; or equivalent combination of education and expertise
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to analyze tax returns and financial information, appraisals, title work, subordination requests, exchange of collateral requests, and other items as needed
- Ability to act in accordance with Community First Credit Union policies and procedures, complete all required compliance training/continuing education within the specified timeframe, and maintain a thorough knowledge of all internal operating procedures, products, and policies within the Consumer Lending Department, as well as applicable laws and regulations
- Good communication skills with an empathetic manner
- Strong PC-based skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office products
- Excellent decision making, strong analytical skills and fine attention to detail
