What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Accounting Clerk position at Community for New Direction?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position as the Accounting Clerk will perform a variety of duties such as keeping accounting records updated, recording accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions using accounting software programs, generating reports, preparing invoices, tracking receipts and expenditures, and performing clerical functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Code and record deposits, customer invoices and general journal transactions into QuickBooks as assigned.
- Record A/P and A/R transactions in QuickBooks.
- Record and update QuickBooks transactions, vendor, and customer records.
- Maintain various Excel worksheets to track fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, employee leave balances, earned revenues, cost allocations and grant expenditures.
- Update cost allocation worksheets based on Office of Budget and Management Circular A-122.
- Utilizing Word and Excel Office templates to generate check request, invoices, coversheets, and other documents as required.
- Compile and copy supporting documentation for monthly grant reports.
- Copy, fax, sort, mail, scan, file and retrieve organizational documents, records, and reports.
- Assist CFO with annual audit, month-end/year-end closing process, preparation of year-end tax statements and 1099-Miscellaneous forms.
10. Participate in staff meetings, committees, attend conference, trainings, webinars/seminars as needed to as enhance your knowledge, broaden your horizon, and obtain continued education.
11. Performs other duties as assigned to promote the overall mission and vision of CND.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education: Associate's degree in accounting/finance discipline preferred or High School Diploma with three years equivalent experience in the non-profit accounting/finance field. Understand accounting fundamentals such as debits, credits, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and budgets. Must have prior work experience using QuickBooks. Ability to use software applications such as Microsoft Office.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Knowledge of Non-Profit accounting is preferred. Intermediate/Advance Excel is required. A high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.

- Knowledge of general financial accounting practices and procedures are required.
- Excellent organizational, communication skills and attention to detail is required.
4. The ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles is required.
- Thorough knowledge of QuickBooks, spreadsheets and accounting software preferred.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Computer Skills
Must possess Intermediate/Advance Excel and the use of personal computer and related software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) use of office equipment (e.g., fax, copier, printer).
