Description
The Optometric Technician will support the CHC Vision Services Team, performing patient pre-testing as well as assisting with scheduling and overall flow of services for optimal and quality patient care. Duties will include:
- Perform patient pre-testing; this includes verifying patient medications, medical and ocular history, checking visual acuity, finger counting visual fields, color vision, stereopsis, extraocular motilities, checking eye pressures and pupils.
- Perform visual field testing, OCT imaging and fundus photography. (Training will be provided to become comfortable with all office equipment)
- Document patient demographic information, pre-testing data, in EPIC EHR
- Responsible for cleaning optical equipment and exam rooms in between when patients as well as closing down operatories at the end of day.
- Assist optician in measuring pupillary distance, verifying eyeglass lenses by auto-lensometry and dispensing eyeglasses to patients. Perform simple repairs and adjustments of eyeglasses when needed.
- Check out patients and schedule follow ups as needed and assist in overall administrative support as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience working as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician. Medical Assistant training or experience in a clinical administrative support role will also be considered, with willingness to train and show flexibility to the needs and schedule of the department, which may include Saturday morning rotations.
