Description
The Switchboard Operator is the first point of contact for anyone who phones the health center. This position operates switchboard equipment to receive calls and pass them on to the correct person or department. Individuals in this position must deal with telephone calls in a diplomatic and sensitive way with due regard to confidentiality. Strong organization skills, handling multiple tasks and the ability to deal with tough situations with composure are qualities that would serve well for an individual seeking this position. Duties include:
- Making appointments
- Confirming and rescheduling appointments for clients
- Answering calls
- Locating and transferring calls to staff
- Taking clear and concise messages
Qualifications
Education: High School Graduate or GED
Experience: General office experience or completion of business college courses
Language: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Travel: N/A
Work Hours: 8am-5pm M-F with some weekend/evening work
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Knowledge
Knows Cisco Phone System or similar phone system
Working knowledge of computers and general office equipment
Basic knowledge of HIPAA
Skills
Basic computer and typing skills
Able to take clear and concise messages
Excellent spelling and grammar skills
Communicates effectively with others
Well organized and able to function with minimal supervision
Excellent phone etiquette
Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and cultural competency
Active listening
The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person
