Pay rate: $18.39/hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday, dayshift hours. No evenings, no weekends, no major holidays. Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
Position Summary
This position performs clerical duties for the health center, interacting with providers, nurses, and health center personnel to ensure patient documentation, insurance authorizations, referrals, testing, and other patient/health center needs are met.

Position Summary
This position performs clerical duties for the health center, interacting with providers, nurses, and health center personnel to ensure patient documentation, insurance authorizations, referrals, testing, and other patient/health center needs are met.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage all referrals, including but not limited to sending referrals, obtaining patient appointments, and retrieving patients’ notes after the appointment date.
- Process diagnostic imaging and procedure orders within the Health Center.
- Complete prior authorizations for medical procedures, tests, and durable medical equipment (DME).
- Comprehend coverage under patients’ insurance plans, including but not limited to knowing which procedures and tests require insurance authorization.
- Provide follow-up to the missed procedure, test, or referral appointment via letter or telephone call to the patient.
- Manage all incoming faxes received in the Health Center.
- Manage prescription and after-hours message lines per policy.
- Prepare correspondence, including patient and provider letters.
- Reconcile failed interface results within EMR.
- Receive records from external facilities and notify the appropriate medical staff (nurse, clinician) of results.
- Retrieve records from the hospital/emergency department per the provider’s request.
- Provide patient information to medical staff.
- Answer telephone and prioritize telephone/fax communication.
- If needed, provide backup coverage as a receptionist: receive new patients and direct visitors with a positive, professional demeanor.
- Assist with tasks directed by providers and nurses.
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Medical terminology knowledge is preferred.
- One-year experience in a medical-related field or office setting is required, or specialized education in a medical or business/office field is required. One year may be a combination of experience and education.
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in dealing with patient information and/or issues.
- Excellent organizational, computer, and information management skills.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with others.
- Excellent customer service skills, including active listening, strong phone contact handling skills, empathy, problem-solving, and communication.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with federally qualified health centers is preferred.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination
- Ability to sit for long periods
- Ability to tolerate extensive exposure to computer monitor/screen
- Ability to tolerate extensive use of computer keyboards.
