What are the responsibilities and job description for the NURSE II, CRISIS STABILIZATION UNIT (CUTLER BAY) position at COMMUNITY HEALTH OF SOUTH FLORIDA INC?
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Nurse II is responsible to provide nursing assessments, dispense medication, formulate treatment plans, and oversee the psychiatric management of the patient in coordination with the Attending Physician. He or she functions under the guidance of their state licensure, within the CMHC in accordance standards of State and Federal regulations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Diploma from an Accredited School of Nursing. Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting.
Licensure / Certification:
Current active Florida RN Nursing License.
Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
Skills / Ability:
Demonstrates expertise in performing psychiatric nursing assessments, and identifying medical and/or psychiatric problems. Possesses venipuncture skills. Possess knowledge of nursing process and psychiatric mental health nursing. Physically able to participate in restraint procedures using TEAM techniques.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (THIS IS A NON-EXEMPT POSITION)
Provide patient care according to established policies and procedures through use of the nursing process.
Communicates and documents nursing actions.
Assess patient’s mental and physical status and accurately report and record observations.
Establish priority in delivery of patient care.
Recognize significant changes in patient’s condition; takes appropriate nursing actions when indicated.
Responds well to emergency/crisis situations.
Prepare patients for special procedures and physician examination.
Accurately obtains lab specimens from patients.
Obtain patient’s diagnostic results as requested.
Provide follow-up of abnormal diagnostic results as necessary.
Keep Charge Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, and Provider informed regarding changes in patient’s condition.
Communicate pertinent information regarding patients at change of shift report.
Participate in patient and family teaching.
Assist with staffing in emergency situations.
Assist in clerical responsibilities such as the transportation of MD order, laboratory, pharmacy, and kardex.
Maintain proficiency in the use of Patient Information System.
Assist Nursing Supervisor with administrative duties and assignments.
Function as Charge Nurse when assigned and in the absence of the Assist Nursing Supervisor.
Attend daily rounds with MD.
Coordinate and assist with the running of milieu therapies.
Supervise work performed by assigned staff.
Assist in orientation of new personnel.
Participate in Departmental Meetings.
Cooperate in implementing changes to improve nursing care on the Unit.
Maintains clean, safe work environment for co-workers, patients, and visitors.
Promptly reports hazardous conditions to appropriate staff.
Keep patient treatment areas clean and ready for patients.
Participate in Performance Improvement Committee activities as directed.
Check integrity, quantity of supplies, equipment and replace as necessary.
Order supplies as requested.
Check code cart as assigned.
Check medications and sterile items for expiration dates on a monthly basis.
Rotate stock and check for expiration dates.
Accurately document nursing actions, procedures performed, medications and treatment administered.
Provides accurate and timely documentation in patient charts within the same day of intervention.
Reports to work on time and ready to work with minimal absenteeism.
Adheres to Confidentiality Policies and Procedures / HIPAA Regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned, including variable shifts if needed.
