What are the responsibilities and job description for the ORAL HEALTH EDUCATOR position at COMMUNITY HEALTH OF SOUTH FLORIDA INC?
POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsibilities include health promotion / disease management class instruction as well as retention and recruitment of potential class participants.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Graduate from an accredited College or University with an Associate Degree. Bachelor of Science preferred. Minimum of six months of teaching experience, planning and coordinating educational activities. Experience working with minority groups in education, Oral Healthcare.
Licensure / Certification:
Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association. Must have a valid Florida Drivers License.
Skills / Ability:
Maintain open lines of communication with supervisory personnel. Bi-lingual proficiency desired. Must possess public speaking skills. Adherence to program Policies and Procedures. Must have reliable transportation. Must posses experience and ability to work independently. Ability to maintain patient, program confidentiality and to work independently. Must have the ability to follow guidelines and meet established time lines.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (THIS IS A NON-EXEMPT POSITION)
Recruitment of potential patients for dental services.
Preparation and instruction of dental hygiene, preventive and prenatal dental care to staff and the community.
Actively conduct outreach activities in the local community to encourage families to come to the Community Health Center.
Giving lectures on pregnancy and oral health to staff and community.
Supervise departmental continuing education program.
Assists in community outreach inside and outside the Community Health Center.
Compile oral health educational material for the department.
Document attendance by participants in the center’s oral health activities.
Assist as needed within the Program.
Coordinate departmental activities in relation to health fairs.
Provide follow-up with participants who seek information on oral health activities.
Create and coordinate an oral health informational newsletter.
Communicate with Supervisor or Office Manager as needed regarding oral health educational concerns.
Identify new opportunities for outreach as individual gains greater familiarity with project and with the local community.
Possess general knowledge of the CHI system, procedures, location of all departments, treatment areas and other patient services.
Document on the Medical Record as necessary according to established Policies and Procedures.
Recognize his/her role in the department and how it relates to the overall function of CHI.
Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to changes in the work environment.
Demonstrate knowledge regarding various aspects of health promotion.
Participates in various in-service activities to increase knowledge regarding different topics related to health promotion and disease management.
Plan and administer classes regarding various topics to include diabetes and pregnant women dental care, in cooperation with the CHI Director of Education.
Adheres to Confidentiality Policies and Procedures / HIPAA Regulations
Reports to work on time and is ready to work with minimal absenteeism.
Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
Perform other duties assigned.
