POSITION PURPOSE:
The Licensed Pharmacy Manager shall be responsible in providing assistance to the Chief Pharmacist in directing and managing all activities including clerical and technical activities performed within the Pharmacy Department, including managing new programs within the department and for the clinic. It is the responsibility of the Pharmacy Manager to supervise and oversee the interpretation, preparation, and delivery of each prescription order or medical device to the ultimate consumer (patient). The Pharmacy Manager shall also prepare or supervise the preparation of all medication requests to the patient care area’s and satellite locations affiliated with CHI.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Graduated of an accredited school or College of Pharmacy with a valid and current license. Candidate’s license must be free of infractions, revocations, suspensions or other restrictive actions or reprimands by the Board of Pharmacy or any agency in its affiliation within the past two- (2) years. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, and a legal resident. Candidate should have a minimum of 1 year’s experience. Demonstration of effective oral and written communication skills, a must. Knowledge of in-service protocols and procedure important, as this individual will be required to present two (2) programs each fiscal year. Requires a high degree of knowledge in storeroom and inventory procedures as this position has ultimate responsibility for managing the supplies and availability of all prescription medications at all locations. Must coordinate with other outside agencies, develop relationships and enhance the image and visibility of CHI. Must also oversee the transportation of supplies through appropriate channels to all CHI locations. Pharmacist must also take the lead in preparation for JCAHCO accreditation and all other Quality Assurance Programs. They should also be expected to assist in all other duties as assigned by their immediate supervisor.
Licensure / Certification:
Valid license in good standing with the Florida Board of Pharmacy. CPR certification, OSHA training, and AIDS certification plus all continuing education as required by Florida Law.
Skills / Ability:
Multiple languages are desirable due to diverse patient population. Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. 10 Key adding machine, knowledge of computers and data entry systems. Any specialized training or certificate programs offered by organization such as the Florida Pharmacy Association or American Society of Health System Pharmacist.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (THIS IS A EXEMPT POSITION)

Responsible for the providing supervision and oversee the interpretation, preparation, and delivery of each prescription ordered or medical device to the ultimate consumer (patient).
Prepare or supervise the preparation of all medication requested to the patient care area’s and Satellite locations affiliated with CHI.
Performs the duties of the Chief Pharmacist in the event of his or her absence.
Maintain high standards within the department and translates Pharmacy Policies & Procedures into the daily operations of the Pharmacy in accordance with JCAHO and the Department of Public Health Regulations.
Responsible for accommodating the provider, patient or other health care professional with insightful, detailed accurate information about drugs and drug therapies.
Assist with the scheduling of Technician while conferring with the Chief Pharmacist for approval of Personal Time Off or other leave and scheduling daily assignments.
Responsible for the scheduling of daily assignments of Pharmacy Technicians.
Conducts a daily check of refunds and voids of the cashier for accuracy.
Log medication errors as they occur.
Participate in Quarterly CQI Meetings and on Performance Improvement Projects.
Maintains a professional working relationship with employees at all levels in other departments and the medical staff.
Evaluates work performance of employees and makes recommendations for hiring, promotion, demotion, transfer and other personnel actions, including disciplinary actions and suspension.
Trains new pharmacy staff and continually reorients existing pharmacy staff.
Is responsible for the department’s operational excellence ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable Policies, Procedures and Professional Standards.
Manages all activities so that quality services are provided in an efficient and effective manner, as observed by the Chief Pharmacist.
Data entry in Intergy and Pharmacy Order Entry System.
Telephone message retrieval, ensuring that department phones are answered in a timely manner (3 rings) with a courteous greeting, personal ID, and willingness to assist the caller.
Filing and retrieving prescriptions.
Supervising and monitoring the ordering of prescription medications for the organization, including prescription vials, labels, and packing materials where needed upon the supervision of the Pharmacist.
Develop a multi-level program to cut cost in the department that has the support of upper management.
Keeping required records as needed, including daily reports and controlled drug reports.
Ensuring and approving that all reports are completed in a timely manner.
Supervise in the coordination and delivery of all items to be transported or delivered to all CHI locations.
Prepare drug information through oral and written correspondence for medical staff or other health care professionals in a timely manner.
Ensuring and providing access to all patients in need of counseling or further information about their medication(s).
Ensuring that all patients be offered private counseling at the time of service.
Develop and present a minimum of two (2) in-service training’s with handouts and audiovisuals for medical and nursing staff per year.
Prepare the department for Joint Commission Accreditation and develop strategies for a continuum of Quality Improvement Programs.
Participate in Staff In-service Training.
Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Programs and activities.
Maintain current CPR certification and all company updates, i.e. AIDS, Fire & Safety, OSHA, and
Board of Pharmacy continued education and AID certification.
Maintain and oversee the distribution of indigent drugs received by the department for patients.
