What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parent Child Instructor position at Community Health Promotion Lab?
Position Summary:
The person in this position will co-lead a weekly health promotion class for families with toddler-age children. This program is funded by the NIH (R01HD114793-01). This position is primarily in-person with a virtual option for staff meetings. A competitive salary will be offered based on qualifications. The 90-minutes classes will be offered to families once per week on Saturday mornings at the University of Houston, main campus. The classes will run for 10 weeks, and four 10-week cycles will be offered per year (i.e., 40 classes to run per year). Facilitators will receive 40-hours of paid training spread across 8 weeks prior to delivering the classes to families. After they have been fully trained, facilitators can expect to work 3-5 hours per week performing the following duties.
Duties:
- Prepare for and deliver a 90-minute health promotion class to families with toddler age children on Saturday mornings.
- Attend a weekly staff meeting to debrief how the previous class went and to prepare for the next class.
- Check in with class participants between classes as needed by phone or text.
Qualifications:
- Education, training, or experience successfully counseling or advising diverse families to improve mental health, physical health, social/emotional, or academic behaviors, OR
- Education, training, or experience successfully leading group exercise classes for adults and/or children.
- Experience facilitating group activities with adults and/or children.
- Expertise in establishing rapport with families from minority racial/ethnic groups or low socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Work effectively in team settings and in service-oriented positions.
